HOW TO WIRE REWIRE HARDWIRE A LAWN TRACTOR IGNITION SWITCH STARTER SOLENOID MAGNETO BATTERY GROUND

preview_player
Показать описание
My Murray 14.5hp 42" widebody LT select lawn tractor would not shut off from the ignition switch. The problem was that the previous owner who had replaced the starter solenoid had miswired the ground to the wrong terminal and did not allow the magneto to work properly.

This video will help you learn how to wire up your ignition switch to the components necessary for your lawn tractor to start, rinse, shut off and headlights to be hooked up.

For a lawn tractor to operate an engine properly, you need simply 4 connections, starter solenoid, battery, ground, magneto connections and if available headlights.

The stator wire goes directly to a positive ground connection, ground goes to the frame, solenoid wire goes to the trigger terminal for positive current to the starter from the ignition switch energizer.

While my tractor had a difficult time starting and while running, was difficult to shut off, a simple solid ground wire fixed everything.

This is why I hate going back and diagnosing what other people fuck up because they think they know what they're doing. I had to do this to my girlfriends electric. The light switch in the bedroom turned off the outlet in the bathroom. It was all messed up. Brand new GFCI outlet that I wired into the main power so it's always on and the light switch actually turns off the fan light.

Great job at figuring this out Henry. Keep up the good work.

Enjoyed the video.. not because of what you did, but how you did. Comical! We'd get along great! I bought a used cub cadet z42 in zero turn, that someone tried by passing all the safety switches, but still has the B, M, S, G, L1, L2. Battery would drain. Now, I'm a network security guy.. so, the concept is the same, as far as "weak links".. It all has to flow. I started with learning the testers, looking over the diagrams. Am creating a diagram of my cub itself so I can visually compare it. I also have the three post solenoid and I think thats is my error.. its also a twin v, and the grounding to them, something off there also... I HATE electrical. But, watching folks like you and others am learning a lot of tricks.

My YardKing has the same wiring harness and as soon as you took that access panel off I saw the ground wire on the trigger terminal and said BINGO! Also that should be a 15 amp fuse not a 10 amp. Good vid bro... now get out there a play frizbee with Boba and don't start hoarding toilet paper either!

bypassed the safety switches , m to magneto, alt to ks & battery cause alt A to start smoking the alternator & will test to see if its fried now ; fingers crossed . tried Y to fuel selenoid yet no power is reaching it and it was fine before , dont know yet all of what ive done wrong but it does crank over again now = I do wish these key switches came w a diagram and i do dislike safety switches as they are a constant failure and most vehicles and equip ive owned/ used had No safetys ever and im just careful are any moving part like the pto and others that come near
id like to see a Well done vid on bypass all safety switches etc on ur mower as i have the exact same mower and also how to eliminate the key switch too and use a toggle to kill the magneto and a push button to start,
i did make another change though i ran a seperate ground wire from the base of voltage regulator as the 3 prongs chassis ground and when thats failing the wire makes up the difference and adding accecories ground wise much easier . also is you swap from a 3 to a 2 posts w 2 spade the bottom left spade is the trigger wire location and the bottom R is a wired ground which can be chassis grounded or my preference both chassis and a separate wire to the battery

i do miss my 1962 international w red diamond bd 240 inline 6, stolen in PA & PA gave new title & reg to the theif and Protected the thiefs identity ; ill never live in PA again and i was born there ;
note vehicles w only 13 vin #'s Cannot be put into national stolen vehicle federal and state systems and No classic car org has a system either
be careful w classic vehicles

thank you for you Vid Good Sir, it will be most helpful as i hadnt yet found any vids after alot of search on Our mutual Exact same Murray Select
mine is a Classic and genererally Runs like New still, but the safety switches have been a nightmare
ill rarely use the mower deck and will be careful when mounted, most of the time im just using it to pull a cart now for firewood retreaval w some decent tires for that purpose in nearly stock sizing, if i need more traction a set of chain is about 50 bucks online
TY for also showing me how to fix the lights, Greatly appreciated

Graciously, Reverend R.M. Bowles in WV

im subscribed Now and Love learning more on Just about anything equip wise, Awesomely done Vid

Hello sir, this is my first time commenting on your channel. Thumbs up always!! I've learned greatly on by-passing the safety switches on the lawnmowers with the ignition coil in the front where the engine is. But for the life of me I can see how to do it with it in the back of the mowerwhere the battery is. Do you have any way you can show me this in that position? I'm working on one that runs fine, but when I engage the blades, it starts to backfire and spit like it choking. What can I do?
