If you already know the forms of a quadratic you can probably skip to 4:29 .

In Example 3, I think it's easier to use -b/2a to solve for the x-value of the vertex. Since the equation is already in standard form, we see that b = 2 and a = 1, so -b/2a = -1. Of choice C & D (the only two in vertex form), only choice D has an x-intercept of -1 for the vertex (choice C has the wrong sign). Most of my students prefer not to complete the square if they don't have to!
