Is There A Difference Between OT & NT Prophecy?

There are two views of Prophecy held by continuationists. The more popular of the two is the discontinuity view. The Discontinuity view states that the gift of prophecy has fundamentally shifted from the Old Testament to the New Testament. This view asserts that the OT Prophets prophesied infallibly whereas the NT prophets prophesied with a possibility of partial or complete error.
The other view held by the Continuationist is the continuity view. This view asserts that prophecy is always fallible In both OT and NT. However, the writings of scripture Including prophecy Is infallible. Today we will be discussing these two positions.

I’m definitely interested in what you all have to say about this.
Once I’ve got the time I’ll be back!

Will everyone please continue to pray for my fiancee (Ashley) and I (Chris). For our relationship to be strong and remain strong and be stronger and for a home together and marriage. We both want to be married and find a home, but we have a few obstacles holding us back including financially. Please pray for us for open doors and God's blessings and favor for our relationship. Please pray our hearts remain soft towards one another. Thank you.

Can you imagine the Apostle Paul looking at Peter and saying. “ did I get anything wrong last time I prophesied over the crowd of people?”

Having to watch for a second time. I was edified as I watched most of it the first time - even jumping off the sofa in celebration at one point - but got tired here in the UK and lost concentration.

Have you guys heard of the incident where a guest minister gave a false word to an autistic woman with a babydoll? The word was that her “baby” would win millions to Christ, etc, but the minister didn’t know it wasn’t a real baby.

Anyway, there’s so many calling the person a false prophet, which I felt didn’t meat the NT criteria of a false prophet (more of a false word from a novice). So I spoke up and oh man, talk about swatting a hornets nest.

This video confirmed my thoughts and added a lot of greater understanding. Thank you!

Hey guys I really appreciate your content but this video kind of troubling for me personally. I’m definitely going to look into those OT prophecy passages but I think think trying to prove prophecy is fallible leads to bigger issues just to prove a stance. I just came across this in 2 Peter 1:20-21 that I believe helps to show that prophecy should be seen as infallible.
I think it was a very interesting conversation and thank you for what you guys do. I really enjoy your talks on biblical theology as I’m trying to learn myself.

Hey guys—I’d love your input on how you experience prophetic words from the Lord when you prophecy. Over time and especially lately, I’ve noticed things I thought were daydreams actually come to pass. What I thought was purely my imagination running amuck because I’m just not paying attention but again, daydreaming, seems to be more than that, even in the last month. How does it all work for you guys?

I struggle to understand how we can say that Scripture is infallible while also saying Jeremiah missed it, and his mistake ended up in Scripture. How is that not fallible Scripture?

Love this! Can't wait to see Randy's interview - I've been to three of his conferences and they were all life changing. Planning to start the Mdiv program through Global Awakening later this year.

Not saying this for sure, but looks like Ezekiel passage a mix of future fullfillment instead of missed? Isaiah has some like that where he'll be prophesying then it seems obvious it jumps to speaking of some other time period, like end time type stuff. Josh kinda mentions this. Sometimes names refer to something else. Like king of tyre being Lucifer, John the Baptist being Elijah, Babylon type name shows back up in revelation. Great episode!

Hey @Remnant Radio. hope u guys see this, I did some looking a the Jeremiah passage. Sorry guys but I think the interpretation that it was "missed" is weak at best. (Reading NKJV) First, the passage refers to two kings of Judah: Jehoiakim son of Josiah and Coniah aka Jehoiachin aka Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim. About Jehoiakim it is prophesied unpleasant death and Coniah is prophesied exile and to have no son to sit on the throne. Chronicles and Kings both confirm that Jehoiachin was exiled (later freed to eat at the king's table) and his uncle took the throne before the fall of Jerusalem. (Side note: Jewish people also like to argue that Jesus is not Messiah because of Matthew's genealogy which includes Jehoiachin because he is excluded from the Davidic covenant: not taking into account Luke's separate genealogy and Mary). Second "rested with his fathers" does not necessarily indicate peaceful death or burial with the kings. Josiah and Ahab died traumatically in war and "rested with their fathers" Amaziah King of Judah 2Kings 14 was assassinated and his son built Elath "after the king rested with his fathers." Uzziah/Azzariah "rested with his fathers" and "was buried with his fathers" in Kings yet Chronicles says he was not buried directly in the tombs of the kings because of his leprosy. (Jehoram/Joram is treated similarly between the two texts-- Kings says buried with the Kings, Chronicles says he wasn't.) Third, Kings says Jehoiakim "rested with his fathers" but does not state he was buried or where. Chronicles indicates that he was shackled and taken to Babylon. Thus, he may have been *not buried, * in Babylon, *outside Jerusalem*. Scripture doesn't explicitly say, true, but the context does seem to make a possible implication. Fourth. If it is true that Jeremiah "missed it" because it was a contingent prophecy it is possible that a repentance could be omitted since this occurred in the case of Manasseh King of Judah whose repentance is only recorded in Chronicles. However, I think repentance in the case of Jehoiakim is stretching it. Anyhow, thanks for the thoughts though. Love listening to you guys.
PS. I also concur w B.J and I think that Mike Winger's analysis of the Tyre prophecy is worth you guys checking out.

At 40:37 While there is no statement in the immediate text as to why this did not come about, there is not in Jeremiah anywhere any statement that they didn't have a problem with prophets sometimes getting it wrong, missing it. However, Josh is right that because the author has previously taught prophesies of judgement are conditioned upon repentence (Jer.18) when you get to the text where it says God did not bring this judgement about, one must conclude He repented. Not that the prophet was wrong. The author does not allow that as a possibility from the context of Jeremiah. Miller has imported an explanation into the text which nowhere Jeremiah states as a possibility. However, Jeremiah's audience would know God's judgement was averted because the condition of repentence was met.
I don't think any of the major/minor prophets of the O.T. ever, "missed it". If there was a failed prophesy it would have to be shown from one of the more obscure prophets which prophesied on a different level.

Guys, Pay attention to two obscure statements that open everything up from Ecclesiastes 1:9-11/3:14-15). These are putting scriptures that speak to things ahead into perspective. Like they (circumstances and people) are, and yet are not, or are not yet, but the cycle of reoccurrence is coming. These are Like master keys that helps us to see when things don't come to pass....wait for it and it shall come like Isaiah 46:10 or 48:3. What I'm saying is that things that can be considered a miss may actually be coming in a cycle that history purposely repeats itself via types and shadows in a pattern protracted over time.

It could be that because in the OT the Holy Spirit did not dwell in man so man was dependent on the prophet to hear the voice of God, placing significant responsibility on the prophets, hence stricter judgment.
but NOW, the Holy Spirit dwelling IN us, shifts the responsibility to believer to be his sheep and know his voice. Not dismissing accountability

As for cessationalists, It's a doctrine of the devil. They of people who don't want to submit to Gods authority period . Long story short:
"Just teach and preach the written scriptures, encourage me, but don't say or do ANYTHING that would expose my sin or make me uncomfortable in my sin"

concerning the Jehoiakim passage in 2 Kings, it’s definitely not out of the realm of possibility that Kings would not include his repentance. 2 Kings does the same thing with Manasseh. All 2 Kings says about Manasseh is that he was evil and led Judah astray and then died, but 2 Chronicles includes something 2 Kings does not— Manasseh actually repented and turned towards God later in life and tried to lead Judah back to the worship of God.
