Who is Captain Pike?

Captain Pike, son of Willa and Charles was born in California and raised on the Federation colony of Elysium. As for his date of birth, well, he's either 51 or 37 by Discovery season 02... so let's hope that things are cleared up a bit before hand as despite his iconic reputation, his character has long been a playground for books and comics and the like leading to some very conflicting accounts.
Played by 4 actors over the time Pike is the longest running CO of the USS Enterprise, serving around 15 years as its captain.

Captain Pike is probably as great as a Captain with Kirk. If anyone deserves his own show is Pike.

Having caught bits and pieces of Discovery Season 2, I gotta say- Pike may be my favorite Captain. He has swagger like Kirk, sure, but it's a confident swagger that communicates that he knows what he's doing without being over-the-top. He's the opposite of Lorca in just about every way.

He's also got some great lines.

"If you're telling me that this ship can skip across the universe on a highway made of mushrooms, I kinda have to go in on faith."
"Starfleet- is a promise. I give my life for you- will you give your life for me? And no one gets left behind."

CBS, can we get a Pike series, please?

Anson Mount is the PERFECT actor for Pike, imo.

In the Mirror Universe, he was assassinated by Kirk when the latter seized command of the _Enterprise._

In all three universes, he comes to a bad end. 😟

I like Bruce Greenwoods Captain Pike very much, he is like the father Jim Kirk never had. I loved the way he talked Kirk into enlisting to the academy in the bar. Best scene ever <3

This new Pike is the hottest Captain ever!! Not juxt his looks I love his the way Anson Mount plays this role. Confident, understated, smart and sexy. I could watch him a spin off with only him. But I love all the star trek series even discovery is awesome. But Pike (Anson) is absolutely perfect.

One things to remember is that starship crews physically age slower (relative to their Terrestrial counterparts) due to the effects of relativity when vessels traverse star systems on Impulse power. Crews can "down clock" innumerable month or years of accrued travelling at
at sublight velocities up to 0.99c on Impulse power during inter solar system travel.

This means that although their birthdate age says that they're a certain age, yet physically they are far younger. This has to be taken into account.

I have always, had a soft spot in my heart of the 1960's Chris Pike both in the Pilot (as captain) and the Cage ( in a wheelchair) he represents so well the version of Star Trek that, I grew up with. He also provided a different, yet an excellent example of a 1960's Star Ship Captain compared to James T. Kirk.

Wacthing this video after Voyager season 2 eps 13: "Such Sweet Sorrow".
Damn, Pike is one hell of a captain. I love Anson Mount's portrayal, hope he will come back in season 3 or get his own spinoff.

Rick, this was a great investigative summary and I think you did a perfect job! I sure hope Discovery does not mess up the Pike story (as it has messed up so much technologically and and in terms of quality in the first series plots already) . My fond memory of Jeff Hunter’s brilliant Captain Pike is about all that these stupid new time lines and reinventions have not screwed up badly. I feel they are nailing the coffin lid on Star Trek because now that so many stories, technologies, concepts and characters that do not tally and the script writers and directors neither understand Star Trek nor are able to write stories and portray them credibly.

What I hope CBS considers is a spin-off show focused on Christopher Piker, I love for Anson Mount to continue being Captain Pike in his own Star Trek show, or event a miniseries. In fact, I like to go as far as Star Trek taking a more miniseries one season anthology, somewhat like American Horror Story, with each season focusing on a different crew or location. Maybe a miniseries focused on the birth of the Federation, or the Romulan-Earth war, etc.

I'd choose show about Pike (and the Enterprise) over Discovery on any day.

As a Baby Boomer, I have really enjoyed watching the characters of the Star Trek universe continue to grow and evolve. I thought that Bruce Greenwood did a tremendous job of playing Pike, with a level of maturity that was truly spectacular, even for his brief time on the screen. But every actor brings his own particular slant to the role, and after watching the latest Star Trek incarnation on streaming video, the latest Pike, played by Anson Mount, was absolutely superb. I was so blown away by "Discovery, " that it was like comparing a horse and buggy to a Tesla, if you know what I mean. The stories, the cast, and the magnificent special effects were more like watching a full length feature film, not just a TV series. I think if Gene Roddenberry were alive today, even the master himself would be amazed by how far the franchise has come. RIP.

IF you do not know who Captain Pike is and call yourself a star trek fan - rewatch the first episode of TOS and keep rewatching it until the only thing you think of is captain pike

I hope that Discovery is the fantasy that Pike is experiencing during the final years of his life.
