The 5 Pentatonic Scale Shapes - Guitar Lesson

In this lead guitar lesson, we’ll go over the five pentatonic scale shapes. These shapes are essentially the “Meat & Potatoes” of lead guitar. This is because they sound great over many styles of music, and are relatively easy to start improvising with.

I've been practicing on this video for six months and watch it again every few weeks and wrote it all down and someday I shall be: competent :)

There is a life before this video and then there is one after it. Finally learnt the Pentatonic scales and understood their roots. I have been learning guitar by listening to songs while learning the guitar parts but this approach is much better and makes learning easier.

thanks for doing these. they're so well put together, well edited, the sound mix is spot on, the tab super is not overwhelming, and your pace is perfect for following along. all of your lessons that I've watched so far have been extremely helpful. as someone who's relearning how to play from the ground up, I have truly appreciated all of the effort and time that goes into making these. they're perfect for me to watch and re-watch as I try and relearn how to play. thanks to you and your team for keeping them consistent, well organized, and free. I'll be a better player because of your efforts.

This is helpful, thank you. I consider myself "intermediate" in terms of technique, but I still don't have my Pentatonic shapes down!
I can play lots of stuff, I understand the CAGED shapes & how 6 relate to each other... and I'm learning to improvise basically by lots of playing, I learn where to find the notes I want.
But I could play faster when I improvise if I knew these shapes, lol.
This has helped me greatly in terms of understanding how the pentatonic shapes relate, and fit together. Also I just (finally) understood the relative Major & minor thing.
Now it makes more sense.

Great video.... when I watched this I suddenly realised I actually knew 90% of this but had not connected the dots on the major / minor and related chord info. Very much like your straight to it style and core information approach.... without the irrelevant pre-amble you get on most similar lesson videos. Thanks so much I will be watching you again.

Half way into the video I came to the relisation that the major and minor pentatonic are using the same shapes just the root is in a different spot 🤦🏽‍♂️ wow
