I've been playing for over 10 years and never ever knew what pentatonic scale was..I've gotten better in the last 2 days after watching this video and just sitting here practicing this stuff very slowly.

WOW! This is a great video. I love the graphic on the left. It is a great idea. I love that you also showed the other panel displaying your finger fret closeup. Plus, you take your time. This is how it should be done. Keep up the great work. So I subscribed to your channel.

I've found, concerning minor pentatonic roots, that:
If the root note is on the:                | E string | A string | D string | G string | B string |
The position will work out to be:  |  5 or 1   |   3 or 4    |   1 or 2   |   4 or 5    |   2 or 3   |
Depending if you want the shape higher OR lower than the root note. And the more roots you know/find narrows the selection even further...

Thanks for a great video you make it clear and to understand unlike some who go off at hundred miles an hour. And thanks to you I've got it.

@number9711 You were looking at the C Major Pentatonic shapes. The ones in this video are based on G Major. If you don't what that means, I suggest looking up some videos on basic scale theory.

Hey Nate great lessons. How do I find the rest of the lessons so I can watch them sequentially. I see then on your youtube channel in different order. Is the series available on your site? If so under what section. Thanks Rod...

When I saw the word 'Pentatonic' I was about to switch videos but getting in a short way I see how imporant these scales shapes are to a full movement across the whole scale structures

do you have to play these scales in fretted position you are playing or do they apply the same in every key?

So if I wanted to play an A minor pentatonic scale. I would just apply these patterns and move the root note or is there a seperate pattern for A minor?

Great lesson, but why are you showing us the G major pentatonic scales first and then the G minor pentatonic scale? Can you play every five scales if you for example improvise in the key of G minor?

How do you know what shapes to use for which songs or does it matter just as long as you are in key.

Most helpful that you used tableture as well, that way I could write them down, Excellent!

There is only ONE minor pentatonic scale, but there are numerous patterns.

funny - I didn't even notice how the Tab was rotated. I do see tabs shown in different ways - some people complain that they are upside down but once you get your bearings it should be no big deal.
