When you go to college to study for your Bachelor's degree, or your Master's, or maybe even your PhD, if you're lucky, you meet a few professors along the way that really make learning fresh and exciting-professors who are able to bring everything together in a way that makes sense. Steve is one of those very rare professors that makes learning the guitar fresh and exciting. Everything he teaches you makes sense. He's an amazing instructor.

Nothing better than when an instructor can answer/explain something before you ask(referring to the 4th position and the groups of 1-3).

Steve is by far the best instructor available online, I joined and went through courses like Jam Play, Guitar Tricks and TrueFire and the Instructors don't even come close. Having taught College myself in the past, there is nothing better than having someone that is a College Professor of Music and Professional musician teach you, his level of instruction highly detail yet his concepts are easy to learn, I'm learning tons from his teaching and have cancelled all other programs and gone with him! Thanks Steve!

Been playing guitar 25 years, I know all pentatonic positions, can read music, all that. Never realized those patterns in that way. Very cool. Makes perfect sense.

Fantastic. Steve makes learning these scales fun and exciting. The way Steve teaches, it makes you want to just rush in and start practicing. One of his best lessons yet.

I learned these scales, the fretboard, all scales by notes rather than patterns years ago BUT this is a great way to encourage students in that critical early stage where learning all 5 patterns of the pentatonic or blues scale might seem 'a bit much'. Excellent work & I'm ashamed that I didn't get it myself with all that playing. 👍👍👍👍👍

Steve, I just want to thank you! You are my favorite guitar teacher. I love how you simplify everything. I really haven't played for about 25 years. I did take guitar lessons when I was a child but he never taught me any technique, scales, modes, only how to read music and full song's. I've never had any understanding of the things you are teaching. I'm basically starting over and just in a couple of lessons with you, I have far more knowledge than when I was planning everyday. I'm so grateful to you for freely sharing your wisdom and knowledge of the guitar. Every blessing to you! ✌🎶🎸🎼

Got to say, this has been an AHA lesson for me. Really freaking cool. And what’s even easier is if you want the blues notes, it’s the middle of the first 1-3 and the outside of the 3rd 1-3 (ie #4 as you add it up the neck).. Once you’ve mastered the pentatonics, the blues scale is just 2 more notes. Easy !!!

I thought I'd seen enough videos on minor pentatonic positions to help me learn them as a total beginner, but BOY am I glad I decided to give this one a go. So simple and yet I'd never even considered it. Thanks man!

Dude...i been playing for over 30yrs and i never noticed that 1-3, 1-4 pattern....it instantly clicked in my brain when you demonstrated it...you, young man, definately have a God given talent for teaching....most guys just want to "show off" their shred abilities...you convey the knowledge in a clear, concise way that clicks....rock on brother!!!!

You don't know how much I've struggled with UNDERSTANDING any of this. This is amazing and will do so much for my guitar playing > self esteem. You see what you did there. Thank you Steve!

That's hugely helpful, someone tried showing me them on a piece of paper and I've only been at this for about 2-3 weeks.
