On How to ADHD we talk about this metaphorical toolbox of tools that we use to support our brains but what about an actual toolbox and collecting items for it from a few different categories like Sensory Support, Physical Support, Mental Support. I will show you what's in my toolbox.

So I have this blanket for sensory support -- I like the feeling of a cozy blanket around me when I'm anxious. I have animal crackers, I also have knitting which I can use to help me focus during meetings, and a glitter bottle to help me calm my emotional glitter.

My cats are always hanging out in my "calm down box" because they know I need them! :D

I love the concept of emotional glitter, because emotions can easily get everywhere and are hard to get rid of just like glitter lol

For a second I was wondering how a glitter bottle would help calm you down then I remembered that when I was a kid I had this glass magic wand and inside it were thousands of tiny gold and purple beads with bubbles, glitter and star sprinkles. The bubbles and beads were really slow moving and I used to stare at it for hours trying to see whether the purple or gold beads would reach the bottom first.

I would love a longer video on this that explains what else can go in a toolbox and how to build your own

I am facing a lot of problems because of my ADHD during my job and I am pretty sure many people are facing the same problem on their respective jobs.
Overthinking is the biggest issue for me
Please make a video on ADHD and overthinking and how to manage that with our jobs.

I like crocheting and hand sewing these days to help keep my hands busy! I also have legitimately started bringing an "emotional support stuffed animal" with me to situations that are stressful or to keep me company when I need extra planks to get over motivation bridge

This explains so much. I've got this "need" to be around books, tools and projects. I've always been that way. And now I know why. Thank you, sweetheart.

My room is my safe spot. In it I have my art supplies, extra water, plants I can take care of, and my doggie.

I don’t have an actual toolbox but I love to sip warm herbal tea in bed with the blackout blinds down and the white noise on. I feel like it’s one of the few ways I can block out the constant buzzing of thoughts in my head. I hold the warm mug in both hands and smell the scent of the tea and drink it slowly while listening to the white noise, all my senses are being stimulated apart from slight so I’m not distracted by everything around me. When I do all of that I can be completely present in the moment and it feels like I’m giving my brain a rest.

Also I’ve never made the connect between needing a blanket over me and ADHD but it makes sense now. There’s something really comforting about the weight of it, I have two almost identical blankets in size, colour and texture but one is heavier than the other and I always go for the heavier one, even when it’s boiling hot. If it’s way way too hot for a blanket I’ll hug a pillow. I always thought it was just a me thing but from watching this and reading the comments I’m thinking maybe it’s an ADHD thing.

I have an actual box of fidget toys. I never thought of adding non-fidget things to it, but I'll try now.

I do this the most in my office. I have put pictures of my favorite things (Firefly TV show, Britney, Disney stuff) on the back of my office door. When I get really overwhelmed I can shut the door and space out to my pictures for a bit, always with a timer going so I snap out of it lol.

I have a connect-the-dots book. It calmly engages my brain in a way that's like coloring without the stress of deciding on colors, or like puzzling without the strain on my logical thinking.

I've always got protein bars for when I forget to eat and playing cards to shuffle when I need to fidget!

This is such a great idea! Would love a full video about this topic! I like the idea of a timer and things for self-care! I have been watching some YouTube videos about index card planner and index cards goals and videos about using index cards for meal planning and workouts. So maybe index cards could be an idea! I would love for you to do a collab with Cass from the YouTube channel Clutterbug!

I've got a blanket too and I absolutely need a cooling one for the summer because I just love the feeling of being wraped up in a blanket but I'm super sensitive to hot temperature. I also have a fidget cube for social situations that I use to regulate emotions when I'm out, my cat who helps me sleep by adding weight on my legs or just being next to me, my bunny plush from my childhood that I still sleep with and in very very messy brain days just carry around, and a notebook that I just like to open and close for no reason other that ritualized habit (because I always open it the same way and touch the first page and then close it again and put it back on the exact same spot)

Edit : I can't spell today

I need to keep my hands busy but hate to do worthless things. Knitting basic socks has gotten me through a lot. I have so many pairs of great socks now.

Peanut m&m’s and a lot of prayer. Also a few games of solitaire. Thanks for sharing with us, it certainly helps
