I often feel like I'm too bored to go to bed.

I’ve always said I don’t “feel ready” to sleep. Like my day hasn’t been satisfied yet, there’s still stuff to do I still want to watch YouTube videos and blah blah. I’m not ready!! Idk if that’s adhd but. People might relate lol. I like what you say though, start to wind down well before bedtime lol

I call it sleep anxiety. It's like I really don't want the next day to start because I've not finished my sht for this day.

I discovered a hack that works very well for me: I've set an alarm for when I should get ready for bed (do my hygiene/skincare and change into my PJ) about 2 hours before I would actually go to bed. I do this while I listen to my favorite podcast, so it's not too boring. I stop whatever I'm doing when my alarm rings and I know that afterwards I still have plenty of time for myself and can continue with what I was doing. Then when I am actually tired, I can just roll into bed. Because most times I'm too tired to change and brush teeth, and then I end up procrastinating going to bed and just stay on the couch.

I've learned that I can't trust myself to read before bedtime. I'll "just one more chapter" myself until I either finish the book or literally can't keep my eyes open anymore.

Have a workout then go for a sauna. It knocks me out. Failing that stay up and do something new. Life is just a series of new moments.

I usually describe it as being unable to go to bed. I've found that having a nightly routine that includes steps like skin care or teeth whitening helps transition into that "wind-down" state as well!

Falling asleep is one thing but getting to bed in the first place is so damn hard for me and I don’t see a lot of people talk about it. Along with getting ready to go out, pre-bedtime is when I procrastinate the hardest. I’m literally here, on the toilet, scrolling through YouTube shorts right now instead of going to bed. I don’t know how to fix this.

omg this is one of the biggest problems I face with my adhd. It has caused me to miss at least a few days of work or go to work so exhausted that I'm on autopilot. It really blows.

I once stayed up until 5:00 AM on a school night looking up pen cases

I fall into the trap of endlessly watching YouTube until it's around 2 or 3 hours later than I had hoped to be falling asleep and I have to force myself to turn off the phone and close my eyes.

If you’re one of those people who likes to read before bed, but can’t stop going to the next chapter, I would recommend reading shorter stories. (An example of this would be Sherlock Holmes.) stories that are about 12 pages or less. This will let you read before bed, and also have a full complete story so you won’t want to keep going back to it.

Hilarious that I found this while insomnia scrolling. I so often miss the signals that my body is ready for bed so I “miss the sleep train” and then am up for hours trying to fall asleep and failing. This was a sign to put the phone down

Reading a book? I’ll be up until I finish it 😂

One thing I have been doing recently that helps a LOT is taking a shower BEFORE I go to bed. It helps wash the stress of that day away, and also defuses the stress the next morning because the task of showering in the AM is removed. =D

I have to take meds to sleep with my adhd. Even then I only get 4-5 hours because my brain just will not stop.
My adhd gives me the worst insomnia without meds, like literal days without sleep because I cannot stop thinking no matter how long I lay there trying to.

Yess I have been going through this for a long time now . Bad part is its gotten way worse than used to be and it drives me nuts I wanna go bed earlier and get up but it's like when that time comes I never do or can . Don't feel tired etc. It makes my whole next day kinda sucky cause I'm tired and I just hate it wish was a better way to help, just can't get my brain to shut down and go ok its time to go sleep now lol no more thoughts just think about sleep and next thing I know its 3am again over and over . As I'm getting older this really messes with the body and I how I feel, when I was younger it didn't so much but I'm 26 now and it's really getting to me lol . Wish was more on this topic that be great

I relate so much. Hard part is, I sleep better and deeper when I sleep during the day than when I sleep at night, probably because my circadian clock has finally decided that it's night time. My family doesn't seem to understand this.

Sometimes I find myself staring at the wall thinking about going to bed but it's like one of those tasks that takes way too much willpower to do.

I struggle with finishing the things I need to do before I can sleep. My executive functioning is drained, and I have no motivation, so I procrastinate on things like washing the dishes, eating, brushing teeth, taking a shower, etc. By the time I convince myself to do them, the sun is rising again already.
