What did Jesus mean when He said, "Ask Me for anything in My Name and I'll give it to you?" That sounds on the surface that Jesus is giving us a blank check and inviting us to, well, ask Him for anything we want? But, we know that can't be true, or is it? How can we best interpret and understand this confusing verse? We will discuss that in today's video. Enjoy!

Hello Pastor Allan thank you for your ministry, it’s helped me go from a lukewarm Christian to a real born again Christian!

Prayer key:
1. Your request should glorify God
2. Ask in humility
3. Ask according to God's will

Thanks Allen Parr

Such an important topic, because there are so many who think that this verse makes God a cosmic candy man/genie who's sole purpose is to give humans all fleshly desires according to our own will and finite perspective.

Thanks for addressing this. So many churches out there preaching a “message” that your relationship with God is based on your health, wealth, and success. It’s not about us, it’s about Jesus

I was backslid for a long time after losing my grandmother and my mom. I never did anything toward God but I was angry with him. I also never asked him for anything outside of his will because I had interpreted These verses as you have. Turns out, he didn't turn his back on me. I was feeling particularly low one night and my cousin texted me out of the blue, wondering if I was all right. She was fist cousins with my mom and we ended up praying together over the phone. I'm now back on the right path after five years of hell. The only thing that we can figure out is God saw how low I had sunk, and he intervened. Your sermons have helped as well. Anyways, I wanted to share my story with you and the YouTube community.

Jesus said in John 14:12, "Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in Me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." In my opinion, I believe that this along with other passages of Scriptures mean that these promises are for us as believers who are abiding in Christ today. What matters is that they have to be in alignment with the Father's will.

Anything in His name = anything in God’s will. 😊🙏✝️
As we truly know God and abide in him, he realigns our hearts with his heart, to desire what he desires...
Then he can give us the desires of his heart - Psalm 34:7

Everytime you come across a difficult verse, remember these questions mentioned in the video:
1. Who is the person that is talking?
2. Who are they talking to?
3. What did these mean to the original listeners?
4. How can I apply those principles to my life?

I can see Some of these prosperity preachers really using this one out of context. I don’t like money, I don’t want wealth, I just have my needs met and my pets are taken care of and that’s all that matters. I only want Jesus Christ. He’s my everything.

How do you stay Humble through everyone telling you “Good Job” like this in the comments Allen? It’s something I struggle with when people praise me even for the smallest thing I always seem to get prideful and goes to my head, I know it’s wrong but I still get proud, Maybe it can be the next topic!
Nice Video by the way 👍

My wife had me comfort her with John chapter 14 (as well as Psalm 91) multiple times during the last 2 months of her life (she died from breast cancer in Dec. 2016). I asked God to heal her. I have wrestled with God a number of times over Him not granting my request.

This, Mr. Parr, is a dangerous and slippery slope. Because I read the Bible, I understand the intention of what you're saying, but I disagree with it quite a bit. With that logic of Jesus speaking to people/disciples of a different time with a specific purpose (i.e. it not really applying to us), that can justify any of us actually not asking God to be involved in our lives/not using the Word for anything in any areas of our lives. I mean, the entire OT is essentially prophets and kings stating what God would do to (and for) the Israelites if they obeyed/disobeyed Him. For someone new to Christianity, are they to believe that these things still apply to them, since they're not Israelites?

That is, do those things not apply to us as well because He was talking to a specific group of people during a specific time? When David, David's ancestors, and numerous others before and after David cried out, asked for deliverance, for famines/droughts to disappear (or to actually appear in Elijah's case), for children, asked for wisdom, asked for a king (which God granted, by the way, even though it was a disaster for the Israelites), asked for food (i.e. manna), a land of their own, homes, etc., does this mean that God will not answer us if we have a similar desire (i.e. to not be homeless, to have food in the fridge, to be free of sin, to want marriage, to have a baby, etc.) because it was for specific group of people for a specific time and for a specific purpose? Of course not.

Jesus is BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER! When He was talking to the disciples, He was also there watching you (and each of us, really) be born. Time means nothing, because He exits outside of it. Yes, our desires have to line up with God's desires and His will, but the way you worded this is quite unsettling (not for me, since I am familiar with the Word, but for people who already have difficulties talking to God, or feel quite intimidated or inferior when asking God for help.

After watching this, I could see how this would greatly discourage them from feeling assured that God is a Provider, Protector, Lover of One's Soul, and WANTS to hear our little silly anxieties and desires because He cares for us. After watching this, I can see how it would be harder for them to believe Jesus cares for them just as much as He did for the disciples. That, or their lives are not as important/there's nothing they can do for the Kingdom of God). Didn't Jesus also say that there are those who believe in Him that will do greater things than even He before He departed this Earth???? Meaning, when He was talking to the disciples, He had us (the future) in His mind and His plans. He always does. Yes, it's specific, but it's not exclusive to any group who believes in God Almighty.
