I had just paid a ticket last night. It was due to be paid yesterday however I really wanted to contest it but gave in last moment. I operate a taxi and upon entering the town of Ocho rios with passengers, I was stopped by the police, A female constable. One passenger said “why are they stopping you when u did not pick up or let off anyone?”One of the passengers in the back asked if she could get out as she was late for work. The constable said she could. The said passenger and the one in the front passenger seat got out. After they had left the officer asked for my documents looked them over all this while allowing the passengers to walk away. She then said to me “Driver yuh know say mi ago charge yuh fi de passenger Weh never have on her seatbelt tho?” I said officer please call back the lady and ask her if she never had her seatbelt on. She refused to call back the passenger and proceeded to print me a ticket which not only required paying a fee but deducted 2 points off my license. It is stated that upon loss of 10 points your license is suspended. If the police are so free in giving us these tickets how will we be able to work. I told her she was wicked and she said she should charge me for assaulting her.

Thank you for the information. However the reality is that if we should ask the police any questions about our rights being breached, it's very likely that we will get the same treatment as this man or worse lose our lives. I'm a law abiding citizen and I am more afraid of the police than I am of the criminals. This is sadly the truth.

I am from South Trelawny, was on my way to St Ann, Police officers from the Ulster Spring Station pulled me over near Alps, they told me to turn off the vehicle, exit the car with my hands in the air, face the back of the car with hands in the air which I did. They proceeded to search me, full pat down, then search the vehicle, at the end of the search they asked for an ID which I gave them. They looked at it and sent me on my way. I do not know the law and I didn't know what to do other than comply, they had the guns. I am a teacher. Thanks for the education DJM.

Up to a few months ago, police officers seemed to be permanently placed on East Ave (off Marcus Garvey Dr or Spanish Town Rd) & every time, without reason (no road rules broken, tag good, they can check the plates for fitness/insurance & see that it's good), they stopped me. Each time the first question out of their mouth is "what you do for a living". This also happened when they stopped me on Waltham Park Road. For context, I am a corporate professional & dress accordingly. I always ask them what the question have to do with the stop & why was I stopped. The last time I was told "to not waste your time" and that I was stopped because of public safety check, so my last such time I told the officer that I had time to waste so he could take his time because I would not be answering the question. At the end of that last interaction, the officer felt the need to dejectedly tell me "mi av mi car dem", which made him look & sound stupid to me so I left him with a smile. I guess if I looked another way apart from corporate they would've gone further with their stops, but they always get a look of uncertainty, like they can't figure out who I am so they have to tread cautiously, so I believe every word of the case cited by Mrs. Jackson-Miller.

Having been to traffic court twice since year, with video evidence of poor police conduct and unjust ticket issues, it didn't matter as the judge clearly noted that the government just wants the fine money so police have free rain... It cost more to higher a lawyer and spend days out of work to fight against the unjust system

Some pulled up behind me on Barbican road in 1999, two days before my wedding, pointing three guns at me, two M16 and a glock. This was like minutes after 12 am.I had just dropped my sister home and was about to move when they pulled up behind me, headlights on full bright.I believe the voice of God spoke to me right thete and then and I obeyed .The overwhelming feeling that took me over was that Ishould not move as if its the police and Imove, I would be deade but if it was gunmen all I had to do was to give them the car if thats what they wanted.
Of course one walked up to the driver side after charging his glock and pointed it directly in my face .He wasnt in uniform but wore a teeshirt that had an emblem on it.He had an accusation that I was driving a stolen vehicle. I told him who I was and that i lived elsewhere and my purpose for being at that location st that time.I also asked him to lower his weapon and not to point his weapon in my car.He laughed but complied after telling me to switch off the engine which I did.I told him my documents were right in front of me and asked if i could pass them to him, he agreed (When they pulled up behind me I had immediately removed my wallet fron my pocket and dropped it below the ashtray and also removed my documents from the dashboard draw.)
My sister and others at her home realizing that i hadnt moved ventured outside and asked what was happening to which I responded that these men whom I suppose to be policemen were accusing me of driving a stolen vehicle.
I asked the policeman without any fear( fear is 50%of your fight) when and where had this report came from as i was the oner of this car for over four years and car was licensed every year.I adked him about my licence plate and the markings on my back glass, he couldnt answer any of my questions. He told me I was free to go. I crawled away but after I passed two corners, only a helicopter could follow.
These policemen were from the HWT division.I knew because I called a friend who was in the force at that time. I am hoping these thugs fully understand that if I was a gunman I wouldnt walk with anything less than an AK 47and that they would be terminated the second they pulled up behind me as I wouldnt allow them to exit their vehicle.I may even have had a grenade or two hut thank God for tender mercies, Im still here and im not a criminal.

Thnks Mrs Miller for educating us 🇯🇲 abt our constitutional rights. Mr Dunn Audit the law been highlighting these unlawful stop & searches to private vehicles & incomp!tent police like Insp Bryan & his fellow colleagues across Ja been using their ego, ignorance & abuse of powers to violate our rights on the road. Happy u make this very clear.
