Some time ago I was stopped by two young Police officers in Rhyl, N Wales.
I politely asked why they had stopped me and they just replied routine without even looking at me.
One officer told me I had to stand by the front number plate - which I did.
The other officer opened the boot of my car without asking permission.
I asked what was going on - the officer talking to me said if I couldn't describe what was in the boot they would have the car recovered as stolen and I'd find myself waiting hours in a Police station to be interviewed.
When I described what was in the boot, they left it open and as they walked past me to their car, the passenger officer said, "We ask the questions not you".
OK - we all know from experience not all Police are like but!!!!

I WAS ONCE PULLED OVER BY POLICE BECAUSE IT WAS "LATE" - GONE 11PM. In my rural area we had our weekly mid-week music night where we'd perform. I was in my early middle age and I was the designated driver that week. I'd dropped the others off and was just heading home and the police guy said he'd stopped me because it was coming up to midnight. I was polite and said I hadn't had a curfew in decades.

I'd like to see a video on what to do or say when you are confronted by a cop with a chip on his shoulder who has one goal that is to escalate an issue beyond using simple discression.
This is happening more and more now.

ALWAYS record EVERY interaction with the police.
The police force is riddled with criminality.
It's essential to record for your safety and for the safety of others.

I was pulled over by police in my company van for not displaying a tax disc. ( remember those?) A group of trainee coppers surrounded my vehicle and listened to the traffic officer talking to me. The reason there was no tax disc was because new windscreen was fitted 6 days earlier and the guy forgot about swapping the tax disc over. The vehicle was in fact taxed but the disc was not showing. The officer lectured me about if it wasn't taxed you could not drive the vehicle on the road. At some point, another motorist who was pulled at this checkpoint pointed out to the officer that HIS POLICE traffic car had an out of date tax disc showing. Huge amounts of humble pie and red faces all around by police.

Being stopped by the police all the time is one of the many reasons I gave up delivery driving for Domino's. I suspect being a person in a cap driving around in a small hatchback at all hours was enough for them to pick on me but it got so aggressive that it interfered with me doing my job a short time after which I quit.

I've only ever been pulled over twice ( speeding and running a red light which I believed to be faulty)- was polite and co-operative and both times let off with no further action.

I've always played the high risk/high reward card of brutal, yet respectful honesty. I've admitted 80 in a 70, 50 in a 30 and 100 in a 60 over the years and was always let go with a warning. Not recommending it but I felt that the officers I dealt with would be receptive to not having the wool pulled over their eyes, and it worked.

In Texas, friends said "play dumb", the cops will always believe that. It works, I even made a cop laugh it worked so well. 'Oh my, I had no idea this old car could go that fast, sir!' 😎

You mean you don't get angry and run/drive away?
Half of London needs to learn this lesson.

They once made me go to court because i had misplaced my licence and was waiting for it to come from the dvla even though i gave them my driver number. I had to go into court and plead not guilty to driving without a licence. Eventually i was able to show my new delivered licence at the fines office whilst the case was adjourned - how crazy is that?

I was stopped the day after the nationwide 50mph blanket speed limit expired after the energy crisis in the 70s (3 day week and all that). The officer had not been told that the limit had been removed and had to radio for confirmation that I was telling the truth. I was doing 60 on a dual carriageway. I resisted a gloat and went on my way.

Tell them your name. That's it. Never ever tell them anything. It is only ever used against you.

In towns they usually have just anecdotal evidence of the actual speed. I once said I had accelerated until I needed to brake. It was only a short distance. They breathalysed me (as they had followed me from a pub), asked me how much I had drank (half a lager 3 hours earlier) and told me to check my mirrors more often. Treat them like adults and they do the same.

Be an arsehole with the police and they will usually return the favour by checking everything is in order with your car. Empty washer bottle £100, bald tyre 3 points each. Air freshener hanging on your rear view mirror or dash cam in the window £200. Best to just be nice.

Twice I have pulled over for speeding, both times being unaware that I was. When the cops asked what speed I was going I told them. When they said are you aware that the speed limit is 50mph I've said no, I thought it was 60mph. Both times I've been given advice and sent on my way. Being straight and showing humility goes a long way with most police officers.

Sometimes acknowledging you committed a road traffic offence namely speeding and your shown some evidence of it, sometimes lip service is all they want to do/ when you become argumentative in the face of evidence then you may be liable to a FPN or a summons

Thank you for all your videos and advice…. Could you do one regarding someone who lives in a van, campervan, motor home and what rights do you have or you do not have, can you be searched or can you have knife, blades, work tools or axe in your van…thank you

So, basically, if you're stopped by the police be polite. They have all the power, and don't need a reason to be unreasonable. Cross your fingers and hope that Mr Plod isn't in a bad mood. But, whatever you do, record the event. They have incredible imaginations and are wonderful at story telling.
