'Skin Types', DEBUNKED 🔥

There's no such thing as a FIXED single skin type. We can all switch between oily, dry, combination etc. throughout different times of our lives, or even in different parts of our face at the same time!

I also think people need to be reminded skin changes by climate. During more humid seasons I get oily and drier seasons my cheeks get pretty tight and my nose and forehead aren’t as bad. I still think some individuals’ skin can be more oily or drier then others but ultimately I’ve learned getting to hung up on skin types is frivolous.

Hi Doc, thanks for your informative videos. It's reassuring to see honest experts like you amidst all the skincare buzz. I've tried educating myself about skincare products, but influencers' claims without scientific backing leave me dissatisfied.

Could you tell me if it's possible to completely remove or significantly reduce visible pores? Mine are prominent, especially in humid weather. Is there a reliable way to improve them, or is it mostly genetics?

We go by pore size. If they’re larger entirely or extending (from nose) outward for most of the face, it’s oily skin type. If they’re small and tight throughout, that’s dry skin type. If they’re larger in the T zone and smaller everywhere else, that’s combination skin type. It’s anatomy. The larger the pore the more oil produced, from what I understand. If you’re producing more oil during teenage years and less as we age, that’s a hormonal reason. Also, there are two types of “dry”. There’s dry as in lacking lipids, and dry as in lacking hydration. So many reasons as to why skin issues can fluctuate throughout our lives but “skin type” is how we refer to pore size and their effect. Again, it’s anatomy. Just my take, and I wish I had the credentials to “debunk” this video but I’m just a student.

So, Could eye cream could be replaced by intensive application of regular moisturizer around eyes?

THANK YOU! So tired of patients telling me this and then getting mad when I explain their misconception to them.

Great video as usual, i always say this to my patients and explained them that there will be areas of your body with more oily skin cuz of the density of sebaceous glands and other drier areas cuz there will be less of them, is just the anatomy itself!!! 😅😅

So basically skin types are temporary, as we age skin gets drier. So would it be better for me to say that I *currently* have combination skin? I'm a teenager

Mine never changed, i have always been dried even in the summer and even in my teens, my teen years were even drier and i had no issue with pimple, i got older and still dry but acne prone. The only difference now is i know what to use compared to my teenage years.

My skin changed from very oily to very dry when I took Accutane! And I had to start moisturizing for the first time in my life.

Some parts of my face are drier than others, and I have to moisturize them more heavily. My T zone and neck are generally less dry. Also, my skin is less dry in the summer (yay!), and I can moisturize less.

Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream (fragrance free), Vanicream, and Aquaphor are my best friends!
