Fetchlands, Explained

Note: I started production on this back in September 2020, and only finished it yesterday, so some of the data and bannings might be out of date.

Update: Groundwell used to see more play in Infect decks, but has been replaced with Scale Up as of lately. Cracking a Fetchland does turn on cards with Revolt (from Ather Revolt) like Fatal Push and Renegade Rallier. See pinned comment for discussion!

I don't think Groundswell is seeing a whole lot of play these days... but fetchlands are real good at enabling revolt for Fatal Push!

I came into this thinking it was for intermediates but when I realised it was for beginners I still kept watching because the quality is AMAZING!

Other use for them is they help you thin your deck. This increases your chances of pulling the cards you need instead of filler. Especially useful in cedh where it can take just 2 cards to win the game.

This wasn't mentioned but fetchlands also thin your deck! Every time you crack one you are effectively reducing the size of your deck by 1. This is of course a very small advantage, but fetchlands don't cost any mana, nor do they occupy space in your deck that would normally be dedicated to non-land cards, so the advantage is "free". For the negligible cost of 1 life you can enjoy all of the benefits mentioned in the video, plus the luxury of being less likely to draw lands later in the game.

At 1:35 you used the allied fetch land types while talking about the enemy fetches
Great presentation overall, tough.

Great video! You earned a subscribe just for the clean, no fluff, style alone! Quick question though, what is a box topper? Are those the cards that are supposed to be given when you purchase an entire booster box? Or are they sealed inside the box?

Another great video! I always look forward to them

I wish they'd just reprint them in a standard set, but have them banned in standard. But why do that when they can print them in a more expensive set 🙄

Side idea/request - maybe a future video on terminology? Stuff like "Timmy".

So my question: Can say Verdant Catacombs/ Misty Rainforest allow you to fetch Jwar Isle Refuge/ Mistvault Bridge or something of that like?
Since the Catacombs/ Rainforest don't mention basic lands would that work, if not then what would?

Hey now, as a proud Timmy I would welcome rare lands. I need to be able to cast Craterhoof Behemoth with *something*

On the topic of lands; are there any kinds of people not welcome on Gruul Turf?
