Next week kicks off Zendikar Rising previews! So before we get into that, let's look at how we got here. What are some of the big things that have happened in the previous Zendikar sets? I go into it today!

Thank you Gavin for acknowledging how important it is to reprint fetchlands, please don't let them become this expensive again. We need regular reprints to keep them accessible very much like sol ring or command tower etc. Imagine a world where we only had a couple of printings of each basic land or of sol ring, each would be prohibitively expensive. You can make expensive alter art/ frame or promos of fetchlands but there needs to be a $5-$15 version of each fetchland. They are the most essential lands in every format they are legal in and unfortunately, not everybody can pay $300-$400 for essential lands for their decks nor should they. Great video! Keep it up!

Maybe it's just me, but I think there's been a slight failure by having single sets try to break down a whole plane. I think while the 3 set problem is probably too much of an issue to go back to there is something to be said for letting a plane breathe. I don't know if the idea is "we can have this plane be represented in two sets just have one be a return" but it doesn't feel the same. The idea of at least introducing a new mechanic and then having either a twist on the mechanic or having more mechanics on the plane allow me to feel out the plane more. Having a single set on a single plane means that I stop thinking about that plane as soon as the next set is announced. The thoughts aren't "what's going to happen next" which allows me to think about the current set in addition to the upcoming set but rather the icon Andy dropping woody to pick up Buzz moment. Maybe it's my age and its about getting used to the new structure, but I definitely have experienced it going from Eldraine to Theros to Ikoria. Each plane had a cool story but a single set only has so many cards to establish its lore and mechanics, it makes parasitic mechanics even worse because you have to cram all their support into a smaller timeline (Looking at you Surveil).

I hope you guys are still willing to do two set (Acts) structures still, as it gives me a better throughline between sets gives more importance to the story going on the specific plane. All of this is one random man's opinion but maybe there's some others in the comments who agree with me.

Really love this format of Gavin not only having a way of direct communication with players on concerning topics, but also a great outlet for him to geek about magic.

I love how he says "I can't just snap my fingers and make time to faster" then jump cuts "skipping" time

Hey, meaningfully reprint enemy fetchlands. Make them accessible. Not exclusive to some VIP product. Please.

Wonderfully measured commentary on the fetchland situation, thank you for that.

If only we could easily download this into people's brains whenever they come up.

WOTC R&D: "...now that's an Idea..."

👏👏👏 well said on the fetchlands Gavin. I saw the flood of people asking about them on the Commander Legends stream and I don’t think I could stay as patient as you do with all that coming at me. You rock!

interesting you added the "accessible reprint" part as a separate take, i can see the camera tilted a tiny bit

Very exciting Gavin how you bring up fetches then jump over to other topics with mechanics and what else we could see in Zendikar Rising. No matter what I'm loving it. STAY PAWZITIVE AND SAFE

So about fetchlands....

Kidding! I have no input on those as I wasn't around for them. But I have to say, thanks for making this video. Again, I really love these dives into the past. I'm really excited to finally get to experience Zendikar and see what all the hype is about!

I remember that webpage where Khozilek was revealed. It was during a time in which I had taken a break from magic but that huge reveal meant I couldn't not pay attention to what was going on with magic! It also got me to finally look into how those newfangled planeswalker cards worked!

1:52 it was worth a shot! Glad you addressed the fetchlands directly, a lot of people don't seem to be aware just how far in advance you guys work.

Pretty excited for what Zendikar Rising has in store based on MaRo's Zendiclues. I'm going to attempt to create some custom designs based on them and see how close they get. It's probably a bit more bottom-up than the actual design for ZNR, but it'll be a fun exercise!
