This cake was SO GOOD!! Incredibly moist and flavorful. I used about 3/4 cup regular unsweetened cocoa powder and 1/4 cup dutch processed. Also use 1/2 cup sour cream and 1 cup buttermilk instead of 1 1/2 cups buttermilk. So yummy thank you!

I just tried this recipe and OH MY GOODNESS!! I've tried SO many recipe's for chocolate cake, but they always come out having a weird texture, weird flavor, or the batter was liquidy to bake. I decided to give this recipe a shot and I am SO shocked. It tasted EXACTLY like a boxed cake! The texture was amazing, it was so moist. It was both dense and airy and it was very fudgy. I accidentally over-whipped the frosting, but it still tasted good! I halved the recipe and put it into two pans. I ended up baking mine for around 35-40 minutes since the middle was slower to cook. I also made my own buttermilk with milk and vinegar. If you're looking for a PERFECT chocolate cake recipe that tastes like a moist boxed cake, this one is it.

"RECIPE*

2 cups granulated sugar

1 cup brown sugar, packed

¾ cup vegetable oil

4 eggs, room temperature

2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1½ cups buttermilk, room temperature

1½ cups plain hot coffee

3 cups all-purpose flour

3 teaspoons baking soda

1½ teaspoons baking powder

1½ teaspoons salt

1 cup dark unsweetened cocoa powder

BEST CHOCOLATE BUTTERCREAM FROSTING

6 cup confectioners sugar, sifted

16 tablespoons butter (2 sticks)

1⅓ cup dark unsweetened cocoa powder

1⅓ cup heavy whipping cream (may need more or less)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Salt, generous pinch

*PREHEAT OVEN ON 325*
*BAKE FOR 25 MINUTES*

If you don't want to level your cakes, get yourself some cake strips! The strips make the cake flat with no dome and doesn't give you that crust around the cake!

Using "Cake Strips" around my cake pans while they're baking is THE best thing I've done for my cakes. They make the tops of your cakes completely flat so you don't waste cake by trimming the tops and that gives you more cake when you're finished. I ordered mine off Amazon, but I think they are available in the baking section of most stores.

Monique, my grandmother and I made this cake last night! My granddaughter is 5 I wasn't sure how it was going to look my main hope was that it would taste good. OMG! That cake was the bomb! For a serious chocolate lover it is more than satisfying! While the layers were cooling my granddaughter and I made the frosting. Then she took a break to watch cartoons so I hurried up and frosted the cake so it would look half decent. She didn't mind so much that I left her out of that part since she was able to lick the frosting in the bowl. It looked like I bought it from a bakery. Oh one more thing, I was worried that the coffee would throw off the chocolate flavor but it didn't. You can't taste the coffee! This recipe is a keeper!!!🤗😀
