Steps to Recover Deleted Files on Mac:

2. Install Disk Drill: Follow the simple installation steps to get Disk Drill up and running on your Mac.

3. Grant Permissions: Upon first launch, Disk Drill will request permission to scan your Mac's internal drive. Open your system settings from the prompt to allow full disk access.

4. Enable System Extensions: For scanning internal drives, enable the macOS system extension. Check out our linked tutorial below for a quick guide.

5. Prepare External Drives: Connect any external drives you wish to scan. Consider creating a byte-to-byte backup to safeguard your data before scanning.

6. Initiate Scanning: Launch Disk Drill and select your drive to begin scanning for lost data. Disk Drill will automatically use all available methods to recover your files.

7. Review and Recover Files: As the scan progresses, you can preview and select files for recovery. Ensure to recover files to a different location than the original to avoid overwriting.

8. Complete Recovery: Follow the prompts to recover your selected files, choosing a safe location for them. This concludes the recovery process.

9. Remember to Save Your Recovered Files Safely: To ensure the safety of your recovered data, choose a save location different from the source you're recovering from to prevent any potential data overwriting.

Absolutely great presentation of the use of this program. I’ve completed the scan seamlessly. My questions are: 1) how do I know what to restore and not (some files seem super important, but I don’t remember ever deleting them), and what got me into this mess in the first place was that I had a momentary lapse of brain activity and thought that “cleaning up” the “recent” folder would be ok, “they’re just sort of like dupe files and not the original.” Don’t even ask. *Then* my ocd said I needed to then delete the trash bin. And here we are. Question 2: after I recover them onto an external drive, am I going to have to forever use that drive to access these files? Or can I rename them and move them to their internal drive spot?
Thank you! Thank you!

I just want to make a complete back up of my existing Mac Hardrive to my external drive. Is this the program to do so? I can't quite follow what steps I should be taking.

I installed the software, then the window with Grant Full Access appears. Then I go and I grant full access, then I restart the software. Then again the window with grant full access appears. But the full access is already granted. Basically does not start. It just continously asks for full access which is already granted.

I use MacOs Sonoma and I have a 2019 Mac Os 16 inch Intel Based

should I wait for the recovering to 100% finish to recover? cause I tried to recover before its end, the lost files just didn't open, so it I was wondering if the problem with the file itself(so I can't bring them back even after its 100%) or Ii was because I didn't wait ..?
the files I recovered was corrupted

Hi there! Looks like a great software. Is there also a way to recover data from a HDD that was accidentally formatted from NTFS to APFS? It was a quick format, so the data itself should not be overwritten. Thank you! 🙂 Pino

Hi I wanna ask something. So I empty everything in the bin and I can't seem to find them even after running the program. Can you please tell me where to look for this specific type of deleted files?

Hi, I successfully scanned the data and found my lost photos from my camera. The only thing is, if I want to recover them and move it to my Onedrive it says I have to upgrade to the pro version. When I saw it on the website it said free, so I'm afraid I might be doing something wrong. Unfortunately, the pro version is out of my budget, do you have any tips or solutions? Thank you

Am I doing this wrong? All I see are files that already exist and don't need recovering yet it gives me the option to recover them

Hi, Disk Drill is not recognizing one of the SD cards that I am trying to scan. Disk drill did recognize all of my other SD card, so I know I am following all of the instructions. Do you know how I can get it to recognize this one particular card? Thanks!

I am able to recover my .mp4 files but it does not show the preview and when I try to open the files it says there was an error that occurred and that the file may be corrupt. These are GoPro videos that I accidentally deleted from the GoPro itself so I am thinking it may be a case of fragments of the file that are missing. Can you please provide any guidance?

Its done a small recovery but the files are nonsense I need help in making sense in this data and what it recovered as so far its just nonsense.

Hi, I'm currently running disk drill on my 2012 Mac Pro it's been running for around 12 hrs and still completing the process however I'm only trying to cover all my photos which were in the photos app. At the moment I see 9 different file formats in folders, including thumbnail images stored from the web etc. How do I separate so I can save my photos and videos from the photo app? and not have a jumbled mess to sort through. I'm talking 100, 000 images so far. Thanks

Can you recover up to 500 MB on MacOS or is it solely on PC? Each time I try using the free version they ask me to upgrade although I’m only recovers 230 MB.

What happened to Quick Scan? I'd really love to get my files with the metadata still intact and I'm told QS can do this but Deep Scan cannot. Only DS is showing up for me. Help?
