The bar chart provides data on the proportion of Australian men and women involved in
frequent exercise percentage-wise in the year 2010.
Overall, it is immediately clear that the majority of females from almost all age groups
exercise more regularly compared to their counterparts. Only the respondents between the age of 15 to 24 have the reverse trend whereby the males tend to incorporate more regular exercise than females.
From 15 to 24 years old of the respondents, more males prefer to exercise at a greater frequency than females at 52.8% and 47.7% respectively. However, as the age groups increase, a significant rise can be seen for the number of females, whereby this is true for respondents between 25 to 44 years old with an increment of 4.6% for females but a marginal decline of more than 0.5% for males.
In contrast to the previous upward trend for females and downward trajectory for males from the ages of 15 to 44, between 45 years old onwards, the proportion of females involved in frequent physical exercise has decreased whilst the opposite trend is witnessed by the males' proportion. Following the age of 45 years old, fewer females regularly exercise with a fall of about 6.2% in proportion. On the other hand, the number of males involved in regular exercise after 45 years old has a steady rise from 43.1% to 46.7%. However, the percentages of both men and women who frequently exercise after 65 years old are only neck to neck with a small difference of less than 0.5%.
