Had my first today. It started with effed up church organ sounds, which didn't help with feeling like I was in a casket. But then it dropped some badass beats like techno from the early 2000's and I was into it.
I'd love for some music to be made based on MRI sounds lol

I had this done a few days ago, dreading it prior. They offered me a blanket and a towel to put over my eyes. They both helped tremendously. They might also help you, so just request them. They also provide you with ear plugs. It’s not that bad. The towel will help you face claustrophobia if you have it bc you won’t see anything above you. It’ll just feel like you’re laying down. Close your eyes, focus on your breathing, dissociate somewhere else if you have to and before you know it, it’ll be over. Best of luck to anyone who has to have this 🫂🩵

I had mine done yesterday - unfortunately the nurses ‘forgot’ to tell me it was 45 mins long (every other MRI I have had done only lasted a few minutes) have to say it was terrifying as I was starting to wonder if I had been forgotten about and left to fry! My mind started playing funny games with me. Had I been told it was 45 mins I wouldn’t have worried. It would also have been better if I had been offered a towel over my eyes
All that said there was no pain, so it just shows the benefit of having the procedure fully explained to avoid unnecessary worry

Tips to make the process easier if you have anxiety,

-Close your eyes through the whole thing.

-Mind your breathing. Irregular breathing triggers the anxiety. Your breathing is way more powerful than the anxiety.

-Make a deal with yourself that for the duration, usually 30 to 45 min, you're going to wait it out.

-Count the clicks and bangs every time the MRI makes a scan, that way you know when they stop in between scans, make a game of it.

Don't make it bigger than it is in your head days before the scan. You can take a lot more than you think.

When I first walked into the room where this thing was at and I actually saw it, I was like "Uhhhh what the fuck is that??"

You can ask your doctor to have an open MRI which I just had last week for my shoulder. Those MRI machines are much wider and once you are inside you are able to see out of both sides. I did however have to control my breathing as the ceiling is still pretty close to the face. Having headphones and a blanket while listening to music helped a lot with my extreme claustrophobia.

I had my 2nd seizure that came back when I was a teenager years ago and had to have a mri scan and I had to have a migraine the same day before I got in it, I hated the noise a lot and wanted to leave so badly, I remember saying to my family I’m never having one of these ever again unless they put me to sleep for it, it’s because I have sensitive ears and my brain is sensitive when there’s a lot of noise
