Star Wars Rethink: Should the Jedi have supported Revan during the Mandalorian Wars?

The rebels were born into a galaxy ruled by a man who wanted nothing less than absolute domination and power over all of it. This attained power was so vital to the Emperor that he constructed millions of war machines and even planet-destroying super-stations just to remind his subjects that he was the absolute authority in the galaxy, and any act to try and change that would be paid with the lives of countless innocent people.

The Rebel Alliance were made up of people brave enough to not be at all intimidated by this threat and sought to take down this oppressive regime and replace it with a more fair one, where every system has a represented voice to be heard. The New Republic upped the ante by allowing the senate to be hosted in a different system every standard year, rather than just be at a fixed location, like Coruscant. This was incredibly symbolic, as it shows the Rebels upheld the promise they made when they first declared war against the Empire; to give every being in the galaxy a chance to participate in the Republic's functions.

I think with how it all panned out that the Rebel Alliance was a great idea, because it worked.

The whole "whenever the rebels destroy important assets the people pay for it" actually helps the rebellion. The more people get taxed, the more people want to fight. Even if the rebellion was destroyed or simply never existed, the taxes would still be very high. So no matter what there would be a rebellion. So now we have the rebellion destroying important assets leads to common people paying extremely high taxes which goes against what the rebels stand for, but inadvertently helps the rebellion because more people will want to fight. Or it may be that the rebellion was ordered to be created by Darth Vader to overthrow the emperor. Just leaving my opinion, now whats your guys'.

I liked the little nod to the Rebels on Onderon from TCW that was in Rebels. Since they were fighting for independance from the Separatists during the Clone Wars, then the Empire, they have been fighting a long time, which is why Kallus describes them as far more violent than the Rebellion, described as gunning down injured Stormtroopers

Well the majority who joined the Rebels are people who have grudge toward the Empire especially the non-humans races.

Also we have the problem, that without the strong Imperial presence, bandits, pirates and Hutts, will have much more free reign. Taking many of those resurces that suddenly should have improved life, leaving the civilian population in pretty much the same place.

No revolution/rebellion is ever won without sacrifice, both on the part of the insurgents and the people they aim to protect/empower. Even the ones that aspire to achieve their goals through non-violence, see Mahatma Gandhi. And you can bet that the empire would respond just as harshly to non-cooperation as they would to non-cooperation. There is also the fact that not all revolutions end with their ideals upheld. The russian revolution, several South American countries and even the French revolution. All of these were fought based on minority groups attempting to empower their respective ideals. The ideals of the republic may have fallen from grace but to everyone in the RA they were worth fighting for, but building those ideals into solid structures on poor ground is a challenge in and of itself. The important thing is that they believed that their cause was a worthy one, and I for one agree. Stability and order are all well and good but I would rather live in a society where I am allowed to critizice and improve the system rather than one where I have no choice but to leave such matters to my supposed betters.

Actually if they had just let the empire fall apart then the result would probably be hundreds of factions popping up and dividing the Galaxy, not to mention the empire would have ran the economy into the ground by the time they fall apart since Palpatine would likely continue to increase authority so they would eventually usurp him so the result would be severe economic depression and multiple warring factions, and political revolution wouldn't work since it's the empire, so with the rebellion at least they would be able to take charge after the war but no matter what the Galaxy was pretty much screwed after the empire

It's nice that I'm finally not the only one - to my knowledge - arguing that the Rebel Alliance screwed more things up than they fixed, and wouldn't be able to sustain itself or maintain unity after the common foe was destroyed.

A great real-world example of this is the Rebel Coalition in Libya...

Had the Empire been better managed, I feel as though a rebellion would not be necessary. However the theory that the previously canon Vong invasion was predicted by Palpatine, so in response he had a massive military build up so upon their arrival, the Vong would be instantly outmatched and defeated.

Well, although you make an excellent point about what the empire might have become, no one in the galaxy would be thinking about how they 'could' become a republic. They would be thinking about what was going on at the time, which was a tyrannical government

I agree with your analysis of the subject, i think the idea of the Rebel Alliance was good, but they did not plan ahead or do the job very well. Again another great video, keep up the good work!

Palpatine was very aware of his mortality and constantly searching for a means of overcoming it. While ordinarily the wait till the tyrant dies approach would be pretty sound given he was an old human man and even in star wars its rare for humans to live long in this case it was very risky as if Palpatine had discovered some way of gaining immortality he could have grown immeasurably powerful. Setting up the new republic just like the old was a terrible mistake as was making peace with the imperial remnant. Ultimately the biggest problem on the rebels part was that they had no idea what to do when they won.
