It was his blade because we don’t see his blade in infinity war but 2014 thanos had it. (Yes future thanos had his blade but he probably used the reality stone to get it back along with is armor then destroyed the stones)

That is why he won, Thanos was willing to give up everything to achieve his goal. Had the Avengers been willing to destroy the time or mind stones earlier they would have won. But they weren't willing to risk that much. That is why the Avengers lost.

Only in Endgame when Tony was willing to give up everything were the Avengers able to win.

Maybe he lost like half his army because we see that Xander did have pretty powerful defenses. The only reason they got fcked up by Ronan is because he had the power stone to destroy all of the Nova Corps. So it’s more than possible that Xander was able to destroy a large portion of his armies before falling.
