Just like in the movie cars, when they had a three-way tie.

I ran 1:47 this afternoon and it nearly killed me... then I realized I had another lap to go!

Play by play of what would happen if I was in this race.
- Start off at 65 second pace
- Fall behind everyone else
- Realize I'm getting smoked and need to step it up.
- Die at 87 meters

30 years ago I was running 1:54 in HS and was untouchable. I’d have come in dead last in this race. Jesus

"The Greatest High School 800m Race" annually is in Kenya. This year the Kenyan schools championships had 2 guys at 1.46 and numerous under 1.50. The Kenyan junior record is 1.42.53 by Timothy Kitum, he was 17 at the time.

Insane. I was pretty quick at 1:57 but their times are just killing it.

It takes a lot of guts to go all out and run up front as McGorty did. Very few runners can do that.

I ran 400 meters in high school and the best time I ever got was just under 53 seconds. During training I tried the 800 a number of times. I only got under 2 minutes once (just barely at 1:59) and I promptly threw up and completely cramped up. It's hard to put into words just how impressive these kids runs were with three runners under 1:50.

Like my dad always told me...

Stay a little bit behind on the first lap and then go all out on the last lap since after the first lap of going all out would tear you up before finishing.
