COACH TOLD HIM IT'S A 600m RACE. LMAO

It makes you realise how much tactics go into running, especially middle distance running. It’s not as simple as run to the finish line as fast as you can.

Haha I did this once in high school. I was one of the worst runners on the team and at one meet I just said “screw it” and went all out on the 800m. Basically ran the first 400m at my 400m speed and left nothing for the second lap. I met the same fate as this poor chap. But I did manage to stretch out the best runner on the home team, who probably didn’t realize who I was or what I was doing, which allowed the best runner on my team to pull ahead and win. My coach told me “That was awesome but don’t ever do that again.”

It’s crazy how fast that gap shrunk, just shows how hard the wall can hit 😬

I used to run the 100, 400, and 1600 meter back in middle school. Coach comes up to me 10 minutes before the 800 and says he needs another runner. Having already run my other events and not trained for the 800, I just decided to just go all out the first lap and see how long I can last. I will never forget that feeling being a full 100 meters ahead of the pack and all the cheers from the stands. Unfortunately, 200 meters into the 2nd lap, and I was already 8th place and I eventually finished 3rd to last. Fun times.

That awkward moment when the pacemaker needed his own pacemaker.

It is like a man escaping from a group that are trying to catch him. Then he realizes they are not after him 😅

He actually paced well. He was probably told to go out in 49, and that's what he did.

Tbh he still got my respect for keeping the pace for so long

The pacemaker should seriously consider doing the 400 he'd probably be decent at it

This guy just decided to go for the win when he realized he'd never get a pacemaking job again

He went through 400M in 49.2 sec - which actually is world record pace and he had behind him a field of 1.45/46 800M runners. The best 800M runners in the world - that pace would have been just about OK and given them a chance of running 1.42 or under.
