The Dark Lord tried to escape at the beginning of the dual. He jumped towards the exit and then Yoda jumped in front of him to block him from leaving. Yoda then said “if so powerful you are why leave” I believe Sidious was afraid he may lose.

I think it’s a stretch to say that Sidious was more powerful in the force than Yoda. Yeah, granted, you progress in power more quickly in the dark side, as part or the Sith philosophy is instant gratification. But Yoda stopped Sidious force lightning with his hands, and Sidious was going full on with it. Had Yoda not been on the edge of the senate pod, this could have resulted in a different outcome.

Yoda does win the lightsaber battle. You can also tell by Sidious expressions that he was afraid of Yoda for most of the fight.

Palpatine didn't 'throw away' his litesaber, Yoda disarmed him... he had no choice but to retreat and create space and distance, proving Yoda as the far superior duelist

1)It has been confirmed by George Lucas that Mace beat Sidious.
2) Yoda disarmed Sidious, it was proven and stated in the movie novelization.
3) Sidious would've lost the battle if they fought in an even field, as Yoda not only beat him with sabers but also blocked sidious's lightning. If he wasn't on the edge of the senate chamber orb he would've continued fighting and beat him

Yoda had him bested in the force at the end. All you have to do is look at the facial expressions at the very end as Yoda is catching force Lightning with his hands. But unfortunately his light body knocked him all the way off the platform. But make no mistake Yoda was going to best Sidious!

Yoda was doomed before he started. The Senate had already gone for the Empire at this point. If Yoda, the grandmaster of the Jedi order had actually succeeded in killing him, it would have seemingly vindicated everything Sidious said about the Jedi. He would have been held up as a martyr. A victim of Jedi assassination. The people would have gone even harder for his vision of an Empire.

I really agree that Yoda is the superior lightsaber duelist. If they continued using there sabers, Yoda could maybe be the winner. Great post 👌
