George Lucas Says Vader Beats Yoda in a Fight...

In an original discussion regarding The Return of the Jedi, George Lucas tells Lawrence Kasdan a few things about Yoda and the force, including, how Vader would kill Yoda in a fight. This was pre Return of the Jedi.
Now of course Yoda's abilities changed later in the prequels with Anakin Skywalker, Mace Windu, Obi-Wan, Dooku, Ahsoka, Palpatine and more, but it's interesting to know that his original idea for Yoda, was for him to not be the Jedi grand master we know him to be today, and that Vader would have actually killed him in a fight!

I think it's a no brainer that Vader would have won at that point. Both in their prime is another thing.

Yoda not being able to fight anyone in the OT makes sense. He's basically on his deathbed in those movies.

Palpatine: "Kill him. Kill him now"
Anakin: "I won't. he will stand trial...after being questioned.'
Palpatine: "DEW IT!"
Anakin: "I won't!"
Palpatine: (rolls eyes)"Very well, could I just borrow that communications device of yours?"

Anakin: "Oh...sure. No problem"
Palpatine "Execute Order 66"

It seems his concept of Yoda was similar to idea of the Whilis, he was a spiritualist, he said “wars not make one great “... he wasn’t meant to be like Dyogenes and Luke Alexander the Great.

Everybody doubting Vaders power is a fool. Yet his weakness is emotions.

In Legends, Vader definitely can't. But in canon Vader is always said to be an unstoppable monster that could beat anything etc... so this doesn't suprise me for the current continuity, like they're making it pretty clear Vader and Palpatine are not far apart, with some sources saying Vader is the strongest Sith Lord ever

Before Attack of the Clones came out, I always imagined Yoda was indeed a Jedi but only fought with medidation based moves. I was very surprised to find out he could wield a light saber and do flippies.

I grew up in the 80's, so i never saw Yoda as a lightsaber wielding warrior, "Wars not make one great".

Vader would beat Yoda...while Yoda was dying in bed in RotJ

Agreed, seeing Yoda go ham in a duel is like seeing something you built up in your head come to fruition. So satisfying and honestly seeing Yoda vs dooku and palps were some of the best parts in the prequels

Palpatine in 2005: "Darth Vader will become more powerful than either of us! "
SWT in 2021: "This BLEW MY MIND that Vader could beat Yoda"

I agree that Vader would beat him in the original trilogy, but that is because Yoda is old and frail by then.

I always assumed Yoda was too old at this stage that's why he was hiding and waiting for 'a new hope'. If he was more powerful then Vader then it makes him a coward to not confront him through all this years. I also didn't like him using saber in prequels, I liked more 'Yoda sensei' more. Great force powers but weak body.

That was probably the original reason why he couldn’t go and fight Vader or the emperor.

This doesn’t surprise me. We have all seen how powerful anakin was in clone wars and rebels.
