I'm using Steam Deck as my main PC for working and gaming, so I'm making a series of guides (USING THE DECK!) aimed at new Linux users. In this video, learn how to get to Desktop Mode, manage a monitor, and connect up your keyboard, mouse, and game controllers.

I didn't finish the video yet, but I can't hold my excitement after you said that you're using the deck as a main desktop PC without terminal or power user stuff!! Here take my subscription!
This is what we need, people who show that it works or what needs to be done for the deck to be a PC for the average user.

And if it works out well, then... What can I say? It would be too much that the deck can do!

Great video, with Windows somewhat borked I'm looking forward to learning Linux

I love these slightly hacky things, like using a steam deck or a phone, as a desktop, or using an ipad as an external display to some contraption, or whatnot
dongles might be a little annoying, but boy does usb-c open up a lot of options for hooking stuff up

So exited!! I just got my notification that my Steamdeck is ready for purchase and bought it immediately. Cannot wait till I get it. So far, the Steamdeck is looking like the best video game package ever.

Thanks for this. I subscribed because I like the level of detail you put into this, like “yes steam deck will keep these display settings saved”.

I really hope that Valve releases Steam 3.0 for PC. This is so cool!

(3:53) I should point out for others who are curious, that the Plasma 'P' logo is usually shown there in the bottom left instead of the Steam Deck logo.

Valve likely changed it in order to not confuse those who have never used a Linux-based desktop OS before.

Similar thing with the splash screen, the Plasma logo was replaced with the Steam Deck logo, and the 'Plasma made by KDE' branding in the bottom right was removed. I'm sure someone will make a tutorial on how to restore Plasma/KDE branding.

I'm looking forward to trying out Linux when I get my Deck. With all the ups and downs with Windows as a whole, and Windows not being a great experience on the Steam Deck, I'm really excited about this!

I've been using Linux for almost a decade now and I've only used Unity and Gnome on my daily driver machines.
I wish I tried KDE Plasma so that I can relate more on this. I'm actually planning to once I get the chance and enthusiasm to do it.
It just looked too Windows to me so I wasn't that interested but I think I can make to look and work for my liking :)

Dude, the Vampires stream was unbelievable! I'm so stoked for the future streams. I'm subbed and belled. You gotta do more - that was so much fun - everyone was having a blast :)
Have a good one!

My friend! Nice video! What monitors do you recommend for gaming on the deck?!

Thanks for posting another link to a compatible USB-C hub /w power delivery and ethernet because this one is perfect for my needs and I don't care about using a 4K display with the deck. Maybe I wouldn't mind trying hooking it up to my monitor that is 1080p. Also it is neat that you are using the Deck for your every day PC using needs.

I saw a youtuber warning to be careful of burning out your steam deck with some peripherals (thought they were referring to docks???). I was wondering if you know why & which? What affordable docks, monitors, & accessories would you recommend & why or why not? I’ve been an avid long time Mac OS owner like yourself. Tried to adapt to using Linux type platforms as alternate OS without success due to incompatible software or limits. I’m in Valve’s Steam Deck queue, but still waiting for my turn to purchase the reserved Steam deck. Started at 2nd quarter now it’s up to after 3rd quarter. Trying to wait patiently. 😉

Best hub is that old steam link you have collecting dust in the back of a cupboard. I dug mine out, taped it to the back of my TV and added a wireless keyboard and mouse. Now when I want to play on the big screen or use the desktop I just remote play to the the steam link.
