RETINOL IS BANNED - What You Need To Know #shorts

Sharing with you my thoughts on the new EU ban on retinol skincare containing more than 0.3% retinal and what this could mean for our skincare routine.

Retinol is a vitamin A derivative and one of the best anti-aging ingredients for your skincare routine, it can smooth out lines and wrinkles and boost cell turnover. Retinol is however one of the most irritating ingredients in skincare which might be why the European Union has decided to restrict the amount which can be placed in anti aging serums.

I thought it was silly when all hydroquinone was banned. There's plenty of OTC products that are beneficial when used sparingly, but could be harmful if overused. Maybe require adult ID to purchase? It feels like a way to push people to get Rxs. At least in the UK you have NHS!

as a non smoker I hate being exposed to smokers but sure banning retinol instead is way safer than passively inhaling bs that causes actual cancer. the hypocrisy..

I think 0.3% is fine . Glad Retinal is not effected, why - less irritation and more effective . Love Geek&Gorgeous A10 Retinal 😊

This is so annoying. I love the 1% by the ordinary, after years suffering from cystic acne this is the only thing that finally cleared my skin up 😢.

But they can still prescribe tretinoin which is 20 times stronger 😂 yeah I get it can cause irritation but so can anything. Absolutely crazy if you ask me

Why? Could you do a video on why they banned it?

1% is a high concentration as it’s such a small molecule that it penetrates deep into the epidermis and if it’s concentration is too high, it can cause skin damage

retinol has been banned since 2004 Despite the ban, “retinol banned in Europe” doesn’t mean it’s unavailable. The prohibition targets products sold within the EU but not those imported from outside. Consequently, one can purchase retinol products online or from specialized retailers.

sooo nothing or not much will change 🤷‍♀️

all of these companies are not big in Europe anyways, most European brands include Vichy, LRP, uriage, bioderma, LCA, Avene, tons tons of European companies make retinols...

a lot of European pharmacies dont even have these products, except like the uk.

Can you link source for this? Only found old data from 2016-2020. Is there something new happening, when the legislation comes into force?

It’s hilarious cause retinol is now banned but you can still get tretinoin over the counter if you order online 💀

Why have they banned it? Is it bad for the skin long term?

Could you please recommend retinal products allowed in Europe? I'm from Greece

Never heard of Retinals. What are the differences?

But… these are retinols, not retinoids (and therefore significantly less potent). I’d be surprised if many otc products are actually banned, as tret at 0.3% is waaay stronger than any of the products listed here.

Do we have any reasoning on why this is happening? This is really unfortunate and seems like a bit of a waste of resource otherwise. Anyway, I’m very curious, why? And people, don’t stick up because the product will not stay good.
