As a European, and a regular retinol user myslelf, my initial reaction was not happy at all, BUT the truth is, we (consumers in general) have been overusing or misusing high concentration over the counter retinol products. It is easy to notice that 1% retinol serums sell a lot better than lower concentrations, and this thing alone isn't bad, but as paired with many other actives : vit C, Niacinamid, AHA/BHA etc... unnecessary. "Consistency over potency" - dr S.Idris;)

Do not forget why they limit the concentration: side effects, and they are no joke

Sunday Riley reformulated Good Genes specifically for the Uk bc Latic acid is banned. The US is way lax imo

Retinaldahyde won’t change here in the UK, it’s still ok. So swap to it instead.

I live in the Netherlands, so also Europe. I can buy products with 1% retinol at a huidpraktijk. Those people learned 4 years of studying the skin and had biology and technique training etc. Also retinol online and Retinal like from Medik8 or Geek&Georges. Tretinoin is prescribed by a doctor or dermatologist and is only available by prescription. Because it penetrates the skin so deeply, they see it in the Netherlands as a medicine in terms of effect and strength.

I personally prefer the efficacy of a Tretinoin cream, which you need a prescription for anyway, in both the US and in France. My dermatologist here in Paris will continue prescribing it to me, so no problem 😊

I’m in Europe, Doc, and retinol is the new HA. It’s in every serum or cream. Not heard about any bans

I bought 0.5% OTC Retinol in EU last November. My skin was overly sensitive as a result.

They just prefer that we get it under prescription so that we get the proper personalized advice about the amount and percentage to use by a doctor. Health care is free so it’s not a bad thing. It’s to avoid self medication’ and make yourself worse

I will now check how much retinol each product contains. Thanks!

Every video I see titled "does retinol damage your eyes?"

I wait for the person to say, "I'm not an ophthalmologist, but--" and then I have my answer.

Truth be known you probably only get half of that in any product companies lie what u buy is not what you always get anyway

So where does that leave Retinaldehyde?

Europeans are anyway genetically blessed 🥺

If you have free healthcare wouldn't retinol be covered by insurance? If it's not covered then free healthcare kinda sucks.

I buy it in pure form on eBay and make my own serum with it. Face is like new!
