I Regret Doing This to my Steam Deck !

This is what happened to my Steam Deck, after 4 months of swapping the white shell.

Below are the items that I have been using on a daily basis with my Steam Deck and ROG Ally

The upcoming official white steam deck would use good white plastic that wont discolor like this. It will have good materials that xbox controllers use. These chinese shells are no good quality .

Thank you for the update! After receiving the white case replacement I realized that the base white plastic is a little yellow and then there is white paint applied on top of this plastic. I also got blue case and it’s blue paint over the same white-yellowish plastic. I tried to do some scratch test and the paint holds pretty good but deeper scratches will show very easily. I think that yellowish colour of your bottom part is just the white paint worn off and the original yellowish plastic is showing through. I might be wrong and it could be a color transfer off your wooden desk but in this case you should be able to use some alcohol to remove the stain. Let me know what you think and thanks for the update. I just got my deckHD screen but I still can’t decide which case I’ll put it in…

Thanks a lot. I too liked the white a lot and was thinking of doing this mod. The only scary part is not destroying the screen in the process. Also i always have a mat on my table. I never keep any electronics plain on the table. But good to know that white shell plastic quality is little on the cheaper side.

The white shell looks great, but is impractical. I had a Samsung Tablet that was discoloured yellowish and have since gone all-black. You could try rubbing the marks off with a microfibre cloth and Vim. If the marks don't come out, there's also Vim w/ bleach.

A touch of isopropyl on a microfibre cloth should get those marks off or at least reduce them. Just be careful not to get any on the screen.

Yea, definitely looks nice in white but it's unfortunate that it's getting stained by your desk!

The problem is your desk has some sort of "fake wood finish" or stain on top. Anything white with time will transfer color if it's pressing against something. Unless these plastic shells are painted and not white plastic.

honestly just for the fact that the material is bad i think it sucks all around, evn the look, it looks cheap. sell it and buy a steam deck oled, that'll be your reason to get rid of that god awful deck. lol

It might be worth trying a little Goo Gone on a Qtip to get rid of transfer marks.
