Mikrotik WAN Static IP Configuration Learn MikroTik RouterOs Tutorial Series
To configure a MikroTik router with a static IP address for the WAN (Wide Area Network) interface, follow these steps:
Connect to the MikroTik router: Use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer to one of the LAN ports on the router, or connect wirelessly to the router's default Wi-Fi network.
Access the router's web interface: Open a web browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox) on your computer and enter the IP address of the MikroTik router in the address bar. The default IP address is often "192.168.88.1". Press Enter to access the login page.
Log in to the router: Enter the username and password to log in to the router's web interface. The default username is usually "admin", and the default password is blank (no password). If you've changed these credentials before, use the updated login information.
Navigate to the Interfaces section: Once logged in, locate the "Interfaces" section in the router's interface. It is usually found under the "IP" menu.
Configure the WAN interface: In the Interfaces section, find the interface that corresponds to the WAN connection you want to configure with a static IP address. It is typically named "ether1" or "ether2" for Ethernet interfaces or "wlan1" for wireless interfaces.
Set the IP address: Click on the interface and go to the "IP" tab. Choose the "Addresses" option and click on the "+" button to add a new IP address. Enter the static IP address provided by your ISP in the "Address" field, along with the appropriate subnet mask.
Set the default gateway: In the same "Addresses" window, enter the default gateway IP address provided by your ISP in the "Gateway" field.
Set DNS servers: If your ISP has specific DNS server addresses, enter them in the "DNS servers" field. Otherwise, you can use public DNS servers such as Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1).
Save and apply the settings: After configuring the static IP address for the WAN interface, click on the "Apply" or "OK" button to save the settings. The router will apply the changes, and the WAN interface will be configured with the static IP address.
Test the connection: Disconnect your computer from the router's LAN port and connect it to a LAN port on the router or connect wirelessly to the router's network. Test the internet connection on your computer to ensure that it is working properly with the new static IP configuration.
By following these steps, you should be able to configure a MikroTik router with a static IP address for the WAN interface. Remember to consult the router's documentation or contact MikroTik support if you encounter any specific issues or if the interface differs slightly.
