There is a lot of conflicting information that revolves around ways to neutralize uric acid. Let’s clear some things up.

Timestamps
0:06 What is uric acid?
0:20 Uric acid as an antioxidant
0:30 What happens when the pH becomes too acidic
0:44 How to help lower uric acid levels naturally

Today we’re going to talk about how to help decrease uric acid in the body. We’re also going to talk about some of the conflicting information that revolves around that topic.

Uric acid is formed when it’s trying to breakdown purine, which is another compound found in foods. It’s mainly found in organ meats and meats but, it’s in certain vegetables as well.

Uric acid can act as an antioxidant in the body, and that’s one of the reasons it may elevate when you’re doing fasting—as a way to enhance your immune system.

When the pH of your urine becomes too acidic, this uric acid can leak out into the joints and cause gout. It can also leak into the kidneys causing uric acid kidney stones.

Ways to control uric acid levels:

1. Alkalize the body
You can try:
• Consuming potassium citrate
• Consuming more alkaline vegetables
• Taking baking soda
• Taking other alkalizing minerals like magnesium and calcium
2. Apple cider vinegar
3. Vitamin C (from lemons or lemon juice)
4. Reduce glucose and fructose

Uric acid food to avoid:
• Organ meats
• Sardines
• Asparagus
• Spinach
• Green peas
• Cauliflower

I had my 1st gout attack 2.5 yrs ago. Was prescribed Allopurinal by my doctor. It does work to stop the attacks, but took awhile to achieve it. 6 months after the 1st attack, the attacks subsided. Not an ideal situation though, as it doesn't cure the condition and makes your liver work harder. Come to find out after 2.5 yrs of research on gout, the true cause in me was insulin resistance and pre-diabetes. The high levels of insulin in my body, from consuming a lot of carbs, prevented the expulsion of uric acid. I've been doing low carb for 4 months and I consider myself cured of gout now. I'm not taking Allopurinal any more. Plus I lost 40 lbs of fat on the low carb way of eating. I'm skinnier now than when I got married 10 yrs ago. It's thanks to you Dr. Berg. You are the reason I feel better now. Thank you!

Dehydration!! Drink plenty of water with a.cider vinegar and lemon. I have never drunk enough water and when I fast, my body has become even more acidic. As a result, I now have gout attacks on my fingers. I started drinking a lot of water and now I feel much healthier.

Normally agree with Dr. Berg, but the only thing on this list should be Fructose. All other items mentioned, especially purines are essential for life functions. This is a very straightforward biochemical process: Fructose —-> Fuctose-1-Phsophate by the enzyme Ketohexokinase, depleting ATP stores to ADP, and eventually AMP, which is further metabolized into uric acid by enzymes in the pentose phosphate pathway. Sugar is the cause of extraneous uric acid. In general we need uric acid in appropriate amounts, but the metabolism of sugar (particularly fructose) creates a surplus of the organic acid which causes a plethora of problems, not least of which is hypertension. This is why many studies directly link sugar to hypertension and have also shown taking a uric acid inhibitor (XOR inhibitor) while eating fructose will prevent hypertension, further proving the direct link. Avoid sugar. Plain and simple. One can always turn to biochemistry for the truth.

I find coconut water very effective to quickly hydrate and alklanize . It carries large amounts of potassium. ( Not from concentrate, no added sugar).

Thank you, Dr Berg.. Your kindness in teaching all that you bring to our attention is such a blessing to me! Keto and I.F. are true life savers for my sister and I. She will be 80 soon, and I will be 74. We live in different states, but talk most every day. We get such joy out of trying different low carb recipes. What a difference you and others like you are making in this world! I Thank God for you!

I’ve had success with low carb, more protein diets in the past. I found intermittent fasting helpful, but I decided to get serious about getting healthier and losing weight, so keto and intermittent fasting. After 2 weeks, a gout flare in my knee! I’d been drinking ACV for 3 weeks for digestion and a healthy thing to do. Gout runs in my family, and my younger siblings deal with it. I was going to beat it, but no. 🙄 I never crave foods, but in the last few months, I’d been craving avocados and humus. Not so I indulged. 2 days, no avocado, and I had other veg, not a large salad, then bang to the knee! More avocado and potassium took care of it. I find I need to have a protein shake with a vitamin complex, and my one meal per day. I never had this reaction with 2 shakes, and 1 meal. But, that was in my early 40’s, and now I’m 53. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I confirm that magnesium helps because a few months ago I felt a gout attack beginning in my foot. I had had two attacks so was able recognize the sensation as the precursor of an attack and didn’t want another. I had heard that magnesium was a remedy so took several 400 mg. tabs that day and by the next day that sensation had lessened. In a few days it was gone entirely. So now I don’t miss my daily dose of magnesium! I’m afraid I do eat badly but am trying to remedy that. I am unfortunately a slow learner! Thank you Dr. Berg for all of your videos!

For years I was vegan and had many episodes of gout and 9 months ago had a painful experience with a kidney stone. Went on the carnivore diet and after a couple of weeks all gouty symptoms went and I have never felt better !
