This is so upsetting and feels so demoralizing. It’s hard to keep pushing for care when this feels like a constant barrier

One time, I’d stopped being able to eat or drink anything (ED history) for days due to an extremely stressful event. 48 hrs in, my heart was racing and I went to see a doc at urgent care. Told him I hadn’t had food or water for two days. My RHR was in the 140’s. He said, “It’s just anxiety.” Now, to this day, I feel like I have to be on the brink of death to have any medical concerns taken seriously, and even then it’s no guarantee.

I've been through all of these, including when I genuinely had Lymes Disease, Shingles, and Fibromyalgia. As an obese person everything is always blamed on my weight, and I totally get that excess weight can cause medical problems, but when you are in so much pain you literally cant sit up, how do they expect me freaking exercise?!??

Yes we do.
One of my children had an experience in a day care where a boy unmistakably touched her inappropriately.
The way it was handled top to bottom, left to right was atrocious.
From the day care to the place we brought her to talk to someone.
The helper asked three times during the interview "but did he mean to do it? It was probably an accident"
My daughter lost her shit at her.

I had a sit down with the executive director of both the day care and that counseling drop in centre.
I was not impressed.

The experience promoted me to get back into the field and escalate my training.

I was told by a doctor even after going to a specialist she sent me to and she didn't do what they were told her to do. That I was depressed or I had allergies and I kept telling her know there's something else that's wrong. So I asked her to send me to another doctor she gave me a referral. And I told the doctor to test me for lupus or Lyme's disease. And guess what I had and it was lupus. And also I kept telling them that my something's wrong with my thyroid I have a hard time to swallow my neck everything I have a cyst on my thyroid. And my thyroid results depending on the time of the day or fluctuating. So I went and got my blood drawn when I was super tired and it was even lower. It was right near the bottom numbers. Cuz before it was like a one too and they were like oh you're fine it's in the range. I'm like no I'm not fine I'm tired all the time my nails are brittle my skin is dry. I could go on they didn't want to listen to me. Well finally they did. Also I told them that my periods were causing a lot of pain because of my lupus.and it was causing a lot of fluctuations in my moods. My doctor didn't want to listen to me so every time I was upset or sad I called my doctor and finally after 2 days of calling him crying because my emotions were all over the place and I was tired and achy and I had a hard time to move. He listened because I never called the doctor and they have to bribe me to go to the doctors. And I was just over it. I have a high pain tolerance but for like 2-3 days I was all over the place crying angry upset I just was so exhausted from all of that I just couldn't deal with it anymore. And I was so relieved that they put me on a birth control that stopped my periods and I was a new person. You really have to advocate for yourself do you think I want to take medicine now do you think I want to go to the doctor's note. Do you think I have to be not threatened but told if you don't come to the office you're not getting that medicine that makes you feel better well it's true I hate going to the doctors. But I like feeling better. So advocate for yourself advocate for your loved ones. And don't let anyone gaslight you AKA bully you into not doing what you think is right for yourself

yes i know some physicians. May be that's there way to make the patient feel less stressed about their issue. anyways making the client or the patient feel that they are being heard and empathising with them is professional requirement.

I have issues with doctors not taking me serious. I don't feel like i am listened to. All they do is type into their laptops and rarely give you eye contact. And if you have mental health issues it seems you are supposed to never have anything wrong physically. I have to fight to get my needs met. It is so demeaning and demoralizing and then i find myself apologizing when i feel shame and feel small by the time my appointment is over just for trying to get my needs met

This IS icky, demoralizing, awful, likely motivated by a plethora of "isms". And, yet, I'm not sure it's gaslighting. I think we another word. Perhaps neglect, misattunement, superiority? I'm not sure. But as a couple's therapist, I think it's important for individuals to realize gaslighting is when someone disagrees with you (like I'm doing here) but is followed up with a total dismantling of your sanity and questioning your ability to accurately assess reality as a means of controlling you.

So everything is gaslighting exept them agreeing with you? So stupid to force them to lie to you so they don't gaslight you. The result will be, you living in your own fantasy world without the support of someone telling you what they really think about what you say
