The father of the man who tried to assassinate former president Donald Trump speaks out for the first time. Matthew Crooks was seen leaving a grocery store in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania on Monday, July 22. He said the family is trying to "take care of ourselves."

It's Matthew Crooks' first public appearance since the assassination attempt nine days earlier.

Crooks said in part quote: “we just want to try to take care of ourselves right now. Please, just give us our space."

He also said the family will release a statement once they are advised by legal counsel.

20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks was killed by a Secret Service sniper after opening fire at the Trump rally. Investigators believe that the ar-15 rifle used in the attack was legally purchased years earlier by Crook's father. The family is said to be cooperating with the investigation.

I wouldn’t exactly call that "speaking out"

What a joke... The statement: "no statement"... The media are jokers... Getting someone to talk by surprise while he's at the supermarket is creepy and weird.

Let’s not forget that these parents lost their son too, and because of what the son did no one is acknowledging their loss.

He didn't "snap back". He respectfully spoke to the reporters. Stop lying.

Ambushing parents grieving a son is not journalism, there’s nothing newsworthy in this piece.

He did not "snap" he explained his position and HE DIDN'T HAVE stalking people FOX

This is ridiculous. The father did not speak out he was being stalked by reporters.

Alternate title for this video: Father and family harassed by media after sons actions - "We just want to be left alone"...

Actually so sad

They lost a son. Their not responsible for he's actions. Leave them alone.

How is that "snapping back" that was a very measured reasonable response given the circumstances.

Why would parents of a 20 year old that lives on his own call the police because he was missing for 2 hours ??

This isn't him speaking out for first time. This is father gets surprised by media

You shouldn’t keep harassing someone who respectfully declines and asks for space.

The headline is deceiving. Saying “no comments” does not mean they are speaking out, lol

This video title is wrong. He didn't speak out. He was ambushed by reporters yelling questions at him while he was just trying to live his life.
P.S. I wish he would speak out. I'm very, very curious to know what the family thinks about what their son did. But I have no clue if we'll ever know.

Good, bad, or indifferent, he was their son. They need time and space to process this. He was 20 years old and as an adult he did not have to share his feelings or plans with his parents. In some cases the parents are the last to know what is going on with their adult children.

"...how he managed to evade security..."

He didn't have to evade anything; there was a giant gap in the security left just for him. Similar to all the cops just waving people in to the capital building on J6.

He WASN'T DEMANDING at all! He was respectful, & gave you info on WHEN they actually WILL be speaking out. You know, they ARE grieving their son, no matter what anybody thinks of the guy.
