When Michio Kaku spoke like a scientist, I really enjoyed his work. In the last 15 or so years he has talked like a fantasist and I just find him annoying.

Michio is way more knowledgable about the field than I'll ever be, but I can't help but wonder how much of his opinions are informed by self-interest at this point. It's easy to imagine someone willing to die on the string theory and/or multiverse hill if their credibility depends on it. I'm even willing to grant him he doesn't do it on purpose.

I'm ignorant on this subject and can not compare myself to any of these physicists, but I do appreciate Penrose a lot more for his willingness to try and remain in testable, verifiable theories.
I have no doubts string theory produced some excellent math, but I'd rather have less 'complete' but testable theories than a unified one that we will never be able to put to test

Kaku talks with a lot of certainty when he knows the multiverse has not been proven and is sheer speculation. He seems to know as little about economics and political science as he knows about the multiverse. I remember a video in which he dabbled into the world of political science and economics.

It's mathematically sound but how do you prove it? We will not advance physics unless we can test the theories. What is the value of beautiful and clean mathematics if it only ever remains in the realm of mathematics? I completely understand the need for the initial development of even crazy ideas, but then there comes a point when they need to be tested.

Watched the entire event. The organizers did a poor job of focusing questions to what the panelists were there to discuss. Penrose was questioning why they got off the original topic. They had 3 great guests, was too bad the event got off track.
