How to pronounce the R in English

Due to the challenging nature of it, this was the last English speech sound that I figured out. The answer was staring me in the face but I didn't realize it.
The English R is both a vowel and a consonant. It is a vowel in 'earn' / 'urn', but a consonant in 'run'. The key to understanding turned out to be the 'wr' digraph in words like 'write', 'wrath', 'wrench', 'wrap' etc. I like to call it a Rhotic W. We actually add the 'w' effect on top of the 'er' / IPA {ɹ) sound whereas normally the 'w' effect is done over a roughly 'oo'ish vowel sound. It makes for a rather weak consonant but it qualifies. It is obscurely referred to as a Rounded English R in phonology land, I hear. You can feel your lips pursing when you produce the 'wr' consonant / Rounded English R / Rhotic W. When 'r' occurs at the beginning of a word, it is almost always the Rounded consonant version.

Since the 'er' in 'dirt' can be sustained indefinitely and has all the same attributes as any other monophthong, it is proper to call it a vowel.
Anyway, we wouldn't be able to pronounce words like 'rural' and 'juror' without the two forms of 'r'. That's why I have 2 letters in my 7M Phonetic English alphabet.
