This to me seems like the difference between "intellectual understanding" and "experiential understanding". I can be told not to touch the hot stove burner and I can understand that on an intellectual level, but that leaves me without the experiential understanding of what it feels like to be burned. Without the experience, we lack a fuller, more complete understanding of both aspects that we can then base our decisions on. As a child, I was told not to touch the bright orange burner. Then accidentally did when it was turned off and faded back to black but was still hot and got burned. After that experience, I never touched a hot burner again.

100% AGREE. Some personality types can learn from proxy, others have to eat dirt first.

we CAN learn from instruction. We just aren't getting the right instruction. A lot of hard lessons can be learned from as a child, under supervision, in a controlled environment.

You described a very tough lesson and our inability to adapt without torment, very well Maybe a relic of the past or just our own laziness, that binds us, who knows?

Its one of our greatest weaknesses, after all 🙏

We think we’re smarter, more together, savvy than our parents or ancestors. We don’t realize how right they all were til we’re old and gray.

This man's podcast is currently the best. For me he has surpassed them all and his style is very similar to the stule of the writer Ryan Holiday. Keep it up. I guess you'll never read this, but there's a slim chance so here goes: there is a Spanish author called Gonzalo Rodríguez (la forja y la espada). He talks about everything you mention from a very good point of view. What they call perennialism. He can talk to you about philosophy, history and religion like no one else. He is a doctor. The problem is that I don't think he speaks English very well. But I'm sure you can make it work anyway.

Unfortunately humans they know and trust only what they have learned, and that's the hard way. And it is the only way to teach anyone, not intellectually, but through experience. So two choices really. Either involve people into the situation, preferably in a young age, or, be there and guide the person out of the difficult situation faster, because you have the shortcut out of it, the experience.
People don't like involving others where they might fail, or even share their failures, and that's why children and other don't respect them enough to even listen.

I heard older people talk so much about wasted time. Movies about young people going on adventures with friends and hearing things about taking chances and carpe diem etc. the older I get the more I’m like man… they were right😂.
