(Tutorial) How to Use the New 'Protection Analysis' Armor Viewing System - (War Thunder Update 1.79)

Today we take a look at the new "Protection Analysis" armor viewing system coming to War Thunder in patch 1.79 "Project X". This welcome change allows us to simply see whether or not a shell will penetrate the armor of a tank, without having to faff about trying to understand the numbers and delve into different views in order to visualize the complex composite armor of the new top tier MBT's.

I wish they only also kept the "thickness against ammo" info in the x-ray view for composite. because then you got a rough idea already, and dont have to check in the more complicated protection analysis

My squadron has done testing on the dev server using that tool, we have came to the conclusion that this tool may not even be 80% accurate on launch day of the patch. However we only tested tier 6 tanks, as a disclaimer.

this is going to be such a useful tool and this is a nice clear overview of it. I am going waste hours playing with this thing and finding and reporting armour issues is going to be way simpler to.

is there a way to just choose a vehicle from the tech tree that I already own to do this analysis without having to select a crew for it?

Well from this it looks like they buffed the Leo 2A4. At 3:05 you can see "500 mm effective thickness" against a DM23.

Could you check Challenger 1 armor with the protection analysis, and the type 74 statistics (i heard its engine was reduced, but I want to know if the reload rate is fixed and armor)

i woud still like the x-ray to show th efective armor value to at least have an idea of what shells will not pen overall so i dont have to look at every shell and if it can pen the armor

Yeah, but it's complete bs. I model so many shots on this to determine what can pen what and where. Try and replicate it in match, bounce, shatter, non-pen. It's shit.
