The Arch Community HATES Arch Installation Videos

So many people that install Arch Linux for the first time do so by following videos, articles or blog posts. These sorts of guides are a great resource for those looking for help with the Arch installation. But whatever you do, don't tell the Arch community that you installed Arch using these!

I like what the gentoo wiki says: there's no right or wrong way of installing it: if you get a working system in the end, you've installed Gentoo

Please note that the "Arch community" is a pretty small minority of the actual arch userbase, most of us just use our computers like normal

It's software. It's not a religion. Some people really need to get their sh*t together.

I’ve used arch for three years and I’m still clueless as to why people act like that.
If someone is scared of installing it only from written media (the wiki) then there should be no problem for them to go check a video from a reputable source, while having the wiki open to learn and understand what you are doing.
People act like linux is their whole life. Chill please.

Arch installation videos were essential to me. I have problems with reading and English is not my native language, so first few times it was faster to me hear some one say the command's and explaining it. And nowadays i probably know more about arch than many people in r/arch

This seems to be a problem with the tech community in general. Any time I post a question with examples of what I have tried and why, I will get a few 'why didn't you first or 'no one will help you if you didn't___' instead of just answering the question or moving on to something that is worth their time. Hell if I knew, I wouldn't be asking in the first place!

I personally was afraid of installing arch BTW, I thought it was the most difficult thing to do 😅. But after following you arch installation video I now have it running on my laptop and desktop. 😁

The wiki used to have everything in the beginner guide. Now important stuff like efi partitions are a hyperlink away

Arch users are so proud of themselves for setting up a package distribution by hand, at the end of the day you installed the system and if it works... it works.

It's funny considering there is now the official `archinstall` program, which means there is now an officially supported way to install Arch without touching the wiki at all.

I've learned more about Arch from Arcolinux than any other single source. Take the time to actually go through the Arcolinux learning path (Arco University) and you'll see what I mean. Love your channel and thanks for taking your time to make all your videos DT!

I was really confused by the wiki the first time I installed Arch, I started learning more about the system after my first installation following a random YouTube video, nowadays the wiki is basically where I get most information I need, but if it wasn't for the Arch installation videos I probably wouldn't be a Arch user.

I think of these guides as different teachers, one teacher gives you a single point of view, more teachers gives you more perspective. You get a better picture of what the "correct" way of installing can be, it depends on your machine and what you need it to do. DT's was one of several guides I watched, in addition to reading the arch wiki. I'm thankful to all of them, they all took the time to help us learn

No one has ever told me that I installed Mint wrong, but if they did I'd probably not take it very seriously.

I have had problems installing arch using arches instructions and I have found your guide a huge help in sorting out problems. I appreciate what you have done. Now that said I am primarily a Debian flavor user but love all distros and love to explore them. Keep doing what you are doing.

Everyone, Like DT just said Arch wiki is really great for explaining almost everything in the os. However the install videos are a great place to get you started without getting overwhelmed with information like the wiki may do. You can start with the basic install and then do some more things later on. Encryption, different boot loaders or a slew of other things will require you to dig for info in many different places including the wiki. Long story short the videos are a great place to start; then if you're interested sink your teeth for the mountain of other info that is arch wiki.

In their minds, they probably think if install videos didn't exist, then Linux noobs wouldn't be able to install Arch linux, meaning the Arch forums and subreddit wouldn't be bombarded with dumb questions. But in reality, if install videos didn't exist, the Arch forums and subreddit would just be like 80% people asking "how do I install Arch?".

Repeat to yourself, "It's just Linux, I should really just relax".

The entire point of Linux is the freedom to do what you want. There is no 'wrong' way to use Linux; install it the way you want. Someone else nailed it below in the comments: it's not a religion.

I figured it out.
The further you can Arch your back, the more flex you have. It’s like bending over backwards to do something really simple 😅🤦‍♂️
The Arch discord mods can be quite salacious when talking about arching your back...👀
