I just want to passively consoom infotainment about something I don't even care about for hours a day. If you dare to question my hypersocialized grifter lifestyle, or my cargo-culted nerd status, or the fact that I am always trying to patrol my superiors, I hate to break it to you, but you've been approved for TOXIC!

The real irony it's that those kind of people are not getting banned. Only normal people do.

We call these people redditors.

You can call them Linuxors, if you want

In German we have a nice term that could fit for these people: Blockwart. That's kinda like a prison guard, except he guards the his neighborhood and makes sure everyone has thew correct political mindset. And yes, the term is inherited from the GDR, Stasi and SED regimes.

Linux needs to be seen for what is is: a tool to accomplish tasks.
Imagine a group of people calling themselves astronomers, forming a "community" around some type of telescope technology, obsessing over it, not even knowing about stars.
Pretty much the same rediculous thing.

Thank you mr Luke. Where would our GNU/Linux community be without you? 🤓

Career trajectory for a fake online community grifter: 1. Insist that there is a community 2. Loudly classify subgroups in various ways to reinforce the existence of the community and your adeptness at patrolling it 3. Center all your comment section conversations around trivia about the various statements, "news", "drama", etc, of your chosen content producers as if you were a press secretary for a celebrity or politician 4. Repeat until someone makes you a mod on a subreddit or discord server

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

This happened with video games in the early 2010s. The Linux "community" will be in shambles soon enough.

I belive this is a problem of western society in general, not only Linux. There are tons of people that create their identity on their beliefs, therefore if you challenge any of their thoughts they feel personally attacked. You see it all the time, people with irrational believes defending them to death because they base their life around them.
