The Black Mountain: Strange Disappearances

► In Australia, there’s a mountain known as The Black Mountain, perhaps fittingly located in the Black Mountain National Park. It’s said that the local aboriginal tribes shun the area and describe it as a place that people shouldn’t venture. They called the mountain, Kalkajaka, or the place of the spear, and it looks like they did this because they associated the mountain with very negative occurrences and outcomes for some of the people who travelled to this place, namely not returning. You can find some of the beliefs of the aboriginals who basically state that they believe that not so well intentioned spirits live inside the rocks and boulders of the mountain. What’s particularly interesting here too is that European colonists also seemed to have added to the natives folklore with odd reported occurrences of their own. While researching about the mountain, similar to the native folklore, the European colonists spoke of many of their horses and cows straying into the mountain area, only to never be able to locate them again. It has also been said that some of these trips to find the animals didn’t end well either, and some of the people looking also never came back.

Hey all, before making this video I didn't realize there were a number of "Black Mountains" around the world that are associated (historically) with disappearances, I only knew of Australia's beforehand! In any case, I hope you enjoy the video and find it interesting, do share your thoughts. Also, I'm hoping to have my next video out a bit sooner than usual!

Edit: I've had a few people ask so just wanted to share that my mum's surgery went okay (kind of, pretty rough) but she's finally back at home from today recovering!

That last story is a nice reminder that it doesn't matter how experienced you are at something, you can still screw up. Just because someone is experienced doesn't mean they're infallible.

I live in Australia, and I have heard of an instance where someone went exploring the Black Mountain in Queensland and was lucky enough to make it out. Apparently he found his way into a cave in the mountain. It was pitch black, I think he had a torch but was having trouble with it. He was walking along a narrow ledge inside that seemed to go down and down quite a distance, and any rocks that fell down there couldn't be heard hitting the bottom. There was reportedly a really putrid smell in there, and I suppose if other people or animals found there way in here with no light, they could well have fallen off the ledge, so maybe a collection of dead things at the bottom? I am not sure where I heard of this account. I have also heard that the main life forms that seem to live on the mountain are snakes and lizards. It's a really strange "mountain" because it is like someone just dumped tip truck loads of rocks there. Thanks for doing this video on it :)

Everybody thinks: it won't happen to me. I'm only going 5 minutes away, 5 miles away, I know the area, I've been there 100 times before, etc. And yet, it does happen.

Why did people keep ignoring the locals like seriously?? Nothing good comes from shunning their wise advice.
Thanks for sharing, I love your videos!

I've heard of this place! 😬 if the aboriginal peoples or locals of any place say NOT to go into a certain area..I would heed that warning!

It's so refreshing to see a YouTuber who doesn't have ads. I saw one True Crime girl who had a 23 minute video an 8 minutes were ads.

You deserve the utmost success with your channel, for your integrity alone (@ 'not selling out'!), but excellent research, editing and delivery as well.

You should cover “Ireland’s Vanishing Triangle” that’d be great content for the channel IMO.

I lived my teenage years near Black Mountain, we'd drive through everyday on the bus and back for school.. The legends of this place I've heard directly from local elders are terrifying, and I used to feel sick when we'd stop at the lookout sometimes - even going to the end of the lookout deck was too much..
It's an amazing vortex and energy portal if you know how to -it sits directly on ley lines - (whole other rabbit hole but worth it to investigate) similar to Giza Pyramids, Stonehenge, Sedona etc. but otherwise you'll most likely leave marked or with an attachment..
It's been uninhabited by tribes for decades for a reason, usually sacred sites (ie Uluru - also on ley lines) are still locally inhabited nearby, but because of the mysterious happenings that are backed up by rock paintings that date back hundreds of years etc locals wont dare set foot and some wont even drive through them as the path between can be seen as a portal/pathway/gate etc..

Hi, fantastic vid as always ! I'm a native Australian woman (Luna) I am Palawa (people) of Lutruwita (Tasmania) . There is absolutely no correction needed, you got it completely right! Noongar (pronounced Noong-ah) does mean a person of the South West of Western Australia and it isnt the largest but is one of our largest Aboriginal culture blocks. It is made up of around 14 different dialects sometimes mixing in english or aboriginal english words. So debil could mean devil after all. Bardees I'm not so sure.
Example : Palawa Kani / My native language - Waypa
Aboriginal English- Fulla
English - Fella/Man
A person of Noongar could identify those words straight away, our language and dialects are really quite complex. We originally had 700-800 dialects pre colonisation, I think its between 70-160 now. You can type up Australian Aboriginal map and it shows you a map of our languages and areas, although its not quite right as my elders tell me but it's close. To us, Australia is made of many many countries, not one. We do have a lot of spiritual tales, stories and dreams that do include 'fairies' and even more surprisingly dragons! ( Bunyips ring a bell?) Often they are based around a long forgotten fact/truth or created to stop youth going in places of danger.
I hope this was of some help but there will definitely be someone out there more knowledgeable than me!
