Also, the father was believed to be incredibly abusive and controlling of his wife and daughter. It’s said that the daughter and neighbor fell in love but father wouldn’t allow her to wed. Daughter became pregnant and people weren’t sure if the baby’s father was her father or the neighbor. Neighbors remember seeing smoke coming from the chimney for numerous days and didn’t check on the family. It’s believed the murderer stayed in the home for days tending the fire, eating and sleeping. FUN FACT- the crime scene was over run with the entire neighborhood and people took souvenirs.

He missed the one thing that adds to the scariness. After the family had been killed smoke was coming out of the chimney for a while after. Meaning he lived in the house after he killed them
