In this retrospective, I dive into the legendary animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 6, exploring what made this show such a defining part of the Star Wars saga. Covering everything from the production process to the groundbreaking animation style, I analyze how The Clone Wars became a fan-favorite and a cornerstone of the Star Wars universe.

Throughout the video, I discuss the incredible character development of heroes and villains alike—such as Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Maul, and the Clone Troopers. I look at the show's unique story arcs, from the epic battles to the dark, political intrigue, and how they shaped the structure of the series across its seven seasons. I also examine the impact of the show’s production decisions and how Dave Filoni and the creative team enriched the lore of Star Wars through this animated series.

This retrospective covers the significance of The Clone Wars within the Star Wars brand and its influence on modern Star Wars storytelling, including its tie-ins with The Mandalorian and Ahsoka. I also explore the animation style, the darker, complex themes introduced in the series, and how The Clone Wars remains relevant to fans years after its original run.

The inhibitor chip arc is probably my favorite arc in TCW. So much foreshadowing and pieces of the puzzle fitting perfectly

One thing brought up in the inhibitor chip arc that’s arguably one of the saddest elements of Star Wars is the repeated line of “the mission, the nightmares, they’re finally over…” the implication that the Clones had nightmares about Order 66 (and I’m pretty sure it was established that they didn’t even know what the nightmares meant) will forever make me stop dead in my tracks and my heart sink to my stomach 💔

At least, assuming the extent to which that’s canon of course

The fives arc hit me so hard when I was a kid, Sometimes I still can't bring myself to watch it because I love fives. And the series did a great job making me truly feel as if I had actually lost someone when he died on screen.

In season 2 of Bad Batch, Tarkin tells his fellow Imperials that the clones grew far too individualistic and free-thinking under Jedi leadership and therefore they must be phased out of the Imperial military. He sees this as a problem but really he laid out the reason that we've come to love the clones over the years.

I honestly feel the same way about the inhibitor chips. Rather than having the clones be cold, ruthlessly efficient soldiers in every waking moment of their lives, it's way more impactful to spend an entire TV series making them human, only to cap it off with the biggest of big bads forcibly ripping that humanity away from them.

I’m actually glad that the Lucasfilm’s interest in Star Wars The Clone Wars was revived in 2020 during the Pandemic. Especially when Disney+ launched in several countries like Europe during the pandemic.

The Sith shrine under the Jedi Temple did make its way into canon later in the Tarkin novel and has since popped in various books and comics. Most recently it's actually been quite key in the High Republic books.

We also see a Sith shrine under the Jedi Temple that the Collosus crew stumbled upon in the Resistance show indicating how this "purification" was something the Jedi did often.

My Top 10 TCW arc‘s in order from 1-10:

- Siege of Mandalore
- Ahsoka framed
- Fives conspiracy
- Maul conquers Mandalore
- Battle of Umbara
- Maul‘s ressurection
- Yoda‘s journey
- the citadel
- Obi-Wan undercover
- Onderon rebels

Honorable mentions to all the nightsisters arcs I just couldn’t squeeze them in there

19:12 Maul formed the Shadow Collective during season 5, that’s the alliance between Maul and Savage, the Crime Syndicates and Death Watch. The Shadow Collective is actually dismantled by the end of Son of Dathomir and after that he starts Crimson Dawn as his own Crime Syndicate.

3:56 this is precisely why we don’t see more shows like this. Becoming a Billionaire like George is not easy to do. And to do it without sacrificing your morals and your character is something that takes an extreme amount of luck. Billionaires rarely have the heart to be passionate about this kind of story telling, and those who do/did probably don’t have the time anymore. It takes someone really special to do what George did. He made and told a story (the original trilogy) and became rich off of it. But instead of milking it for all it was worth right off the bat, he took a break. It gave him time to think “what other stories can I tell?”. And then he took all of that money he made before, and funded them himself. He seemingly didn’t care if it made or lost him money, he just wanted to tell stories. And I think that’s awesome.

I still can't watch the Fives arc without crying, ...it and Umbara always never fail to break me❤

A lore reason I defend the inhibitor chips is this:

Since having clones kill jedi was Palpatine's endgame for the war, he would not want to risk any clones somehow defying their programming. Multiple stories have characters that were brainwashed at birth, only to break free. Take Finn, for example.

Lastly, Palpatine wore a black robe and was physically scarred when he gave the order. He told everyone about his scars after giving the order. The clones would've assumed it was an imposter calling them.
