What would a Universal Basic Income mean for artists?

As a starving writer, UBI would change my life. In the last few years, I’ve only earned a little over thirty dollars from my writing. If I had UBI, I would use some of it to pay for editing services, something that I’ve never been able to afford before. Aside from that, I would probably save most of the income, only spending money periodically. Hopefully, after around four or five years, I would have enough money to finally move away from my parents.

My brain needs daily creative time at least 4 hours a day. Now I am working 4 hours a day in another job that I also like and it helps me to pay my bills but I am very tired for devoting the time I need to my creative business. Yes you are absolutely right artists shouldn´t be submitted to market needs but they need to explore their own artistic path which is what they want to express and leave in the world. Contempory art is average preciously for that reason. Yes it is true there are lots of competition on internet. Internet is not the solution. You should also support private iniciatives that support performance and arts like opening an account in Triodos bank. It is an ethical bank that invest in art projects because they are commited to develop the arts in our society. We need to work in group not alone. And not wait for the UBI that is something that can come but in the meanwhile we need to act now.

Sure. Everyone would love to have disposable income, but UBI isnt the way to get it.

By advocating for UBI you are advocating theft. The government is going to force a tax upon us so that people like you can be afforded the opportunity to pursue their own selfish interests.

Sure you might be a kick ass artist, but there are many times as many who suck at art. Society should not be forced to pay for your hobbies.

Markets should determine which artists succeed or fail.
