Meanwhile the military budget rises and rises, giant corporations get bailouts but no, its a different set of rules for the little guy.

UBI would pretty much destroy all poverty I don't see how that could ever be bad. We have way too much poverty and a massive divide and terrible working conditions and bad workers rights in many cases

It’s a fine line, when you have to work 12+ hours a day, you sleep for 8hrs, spend 1 hour to and from work, 1 hour cooking, 1 hour showering going to the toilet, that leaves you with just 1 hour of free time

Human needs are a basic human right and we are reaching a point that that is possible to achieve so it should be. To say someone doesn't deserve basic needs unless they work is old cold bitter thinking and doesn't accept the core value of a soul

What could possibly go wrong?
The War on Poverty worked so well.

Degradation and demoralization of men without work is a feature, not a bug.

If they are already sitting at home then they are already living off the tax payer & the rest of us don't benefit. At least the rest of us would if we had UBI

Studies show that UBI actually increases the rate of employment! When someone can afford to eat a good meal, freshen up, look presentable, overall live a healthier lifestyle, they'll be much more hireable and will actually be more likely not just to gain employment but to even seek it in the first place.

Helping others up is great, letting others pull us down is illogical and dangerous.

Yeah but when you take away the supply of jobs by automating them- say, taking away millions of jobs from truck drivers… it’s time to start giving universal income serious thought. The economics makes sense and is necessary to maintain purchasing power.

the problem is people like me who work 12 hours a day for a minimum wage and... don't have enough money to just survive... if i could get 1000 dollars a month you don't have to give the money directly...give a card you can use for bill and grocery and rent...that will help a lot... you don't want to use tax money just lower the tax rate on people

Many people, like myself, worked with severe disabilities for decades. Understand that I was fine with that. But I will not endure the physical pain of working if your just going to take my earnings and use them against me. Not doing it. And no. I do not draw disability. My husband supports us. MANY people who no longer get any benefit from working just won’t any more. Why break my back? I don’t get to keep it anymore. Why does that 30 year old playing video games deserve to get income from me? And we don’t even have pain killers anymore because of some drug addicts on the other side of town. Just went through five weeks of unbearable sciatica pain without any meds. Not because I didn’t desperately need them. Clearly this is malpractice. So why should I endure all of this pain for anyone else’s benefit

the problem arises when you have people who are now older and have been doing a certain job for a long time so retraining isn’t really an option so you have two options prevent automation so they still have jobs or pay them to not work

We should never, ever listen to people in Academia about anything that happens in the real world. Someone might chose to hear them out about their subject of expertise but we certainly should never listen to them about anything else they spew. What they know is academic, it's in the name so what they know about really isn't meant to be put into action or implement. Plus, we should not be attributing some sort of magical wisdom to these people simply because they speak well and have extensive schooling.

It will make the government even bigger than it is. Besides they've been giving Americans free housing and food for decades and it's just a burden. Look at the projects, the amount of greatness that comes out of them is disproportionate

this is one of the stupidest arguments against UBI ...the majority of people degradation is due to suffering and low income related social problems
