I think what we saw was a cross between the Force and the Infinite Improbability Drive. All that's missing is a Bambleweeny 57 Sub-Meson Brain, a atomic vector plotter, and a good strong cup of tea.

When I heard “spore drive” first thing that came to my mind was the USS Equinox from STVOY

Every time I see anything about this show's episodes I keep thinking, man, the writers really wanted to make a Mass Effect show but couldn't get the rights. The "Spore Drive" system is a bit too similar to how the Mass Relays work in the other plot with their FTL corridors. You have your Commander with a colored past that's the best officer in fleet because writing. Holo transmitter, pew pew lasers, action heavy. Ya, just change the NCC to SSV, its all making sense.

Also, if you freeze frame the scene where he sends Michael multiple places, he is only cycling the destinations. It is a visual representation of where she could go.

I don't think I've ever seen Trekyards grasp so many straws. Admit it. Discovery's plot is ridiculous.

The spore drive reminds me of the Eldar webway from warhammer 40k universe, but I could be wrong.

Jonathan Frakes is on record as saying that DSC will deal with the mirror universe. I think DSC will use the spore drive to go somewhere, but end up in the mirror universe on accident. Things will go badly and they will scrap the spore drive. Clearly there is some connection to Section 31, so Kirk's experience with the mirror universe can still remain on record as the first mirrror crossing. My 2 cents.

Lorca says" You want to see where the're going, where they've been?" I take that as she didn't travel there, they have a way of seeing where the spore "network" has been. Might also explain how he got the eye injury caused by over explosure of light, he "saw" the beacon at the Binary Star go off, maybe?

Scifi series Dark Matter has a blink drive that is quantum based. They can blink through any shield, to alternate universes, dimensions and even through time. And its the size of a suitcase. But too many times it goes seriously wrong.

I posted this in your menagerie video but figured it would be worth going here:

I think we're going to find out the creature is an alternate source of the spores. They mentioned regarding the tests on the other ship that there was a benefit to 'not growing their own' meaning that they were harvesting them. This beast has a glowing 'mane' around its head that look similar to the spores. Maybe the spores have some sort of symbiotic relationship with the creature, and they were harvesting them.

Or he wants it because if it can kill klingons easily, you can clone it and ride them into battle.

Robotech fans know where they got the idea of a spore drive. " PROTOCULTRUE" good times.

They call it Spore Drive. I call it "Biowarp"

Why not spice melange and fold space. Finding corridors through space through the use of an organic substance.

Foley's description of the front of a ship arriving before the rear leaves is very much like E. E. Smith's Inertialess Drive from his Lensman series.

The whole bit about the crew being inside out gave me a "Philadelphia project" vibe. Super creepy.

So basically Discovery runs on magic mushrooms!

This is a bit off topic for this video-but looking at the USS Kelvin, isnt it in prime timeline until nero apprears. The Kelvin has a lot of tie ins with NX01 and TOS along with Discovery. The bridge, uniforms ect-any thoughts

I remember when this show was *first* announced they mentioned something a unique propulsion system that would allow the Discovery to transit not just space but time. I can't for life of me find that article but I'm pretty sure I read that.

The Caretaker is a "sporocystian" lifeform that can traverse subspace (spore cyst).

re jab at the time it takes to reach Klingon space. In The Undiscovered Country you can count the hours it takes from Space Dock to Klingon space thanks to the clock above the view screen, about 8 hours.

Robotech protoculture fold drive anyone? Sure looked like they were growing flowers of life.
