I did love the way they showed how the Universal Translator functioned in the show.

1:18 actually you’re both wrong - the Enterprise is in warp for 52.64 Seconds (53) for Approximately 30 Billion KM ~ (Math) is Approximately 1886x C so just below Warp 9.6 at 1909x C.

THANK YOU. Getting so sick of the endless negativity surrounding discovery. Nice to just watch a video complimenting them on something neat.

The most egregious warp jump in Star Trek to me was in Into Darkness when the Enterprise (which was close enough to Qo'noS to fire torpedoes at its surface) went to warp to escape the Vengeance, is then fired upon by the Vengeance, and then is knocked out of warp coincidentally right next to Earth's moon ... all in the span of about 65 seconds. The scene includes several cuts, but the way it's shot suggests it all happens in real time. -_-

I've finally caught up with everything (episode 13 as of writing this) and I really think the show is starting to come into it's own. Like a lot of people, I was unsure at first, but now things are picking up. I'm excited to see what happens next.

I've watched star trek for a long time, and even without looking into it too much or doing the math, the times traveled for a warp jump and relative warp speeds seemed grossly variant from jump to jump.

Was interesting to hear it broken down like this! Liked and subscribed! Keep at it! :D

When I saw this scene, I had to stop and do the calculation myself. I was so impressed that they actually got the timing, warp factor and distance right. That's great attention to detail, and that attention to detail is what I've come to love about this show.

I am so glad people like you, EC Henry, make videos like this. I don't think anyone could call this channel "robust" but it could be called "concise" which I appreciate very much. You don't make 10:00+ videos every time for topics that only need a few minutes (although I would happily watch those) and you don't have annoying LIKE COMMENT SUBSCRIBE and 30 second intros. I think you are a good representation of what a good channel should be, and I bet you will continue to do well despite these gimmicks and practices because your content is absolutely fantastic. Thanks for what you do, and please don't stop anytime soon. Ad Astrum, Commander o7

You should join IMDB and put in all these technical inconsistencies in the 'Goofs' section. I am a gold level 'Goofs' contributor myself.

I cant get past the aesthetics of the show, the space shuttle looked cool though. Can't get past the Klingon's new look and all the fairy dust magic.

This is probably the most Trekkie video I have ever seen... thank you very much.

Damn!!! That is a first!!! For trek in general!! A real-time demonstration of warp travel. No time lapse or skip ahead a few hours, no inconsistencies. Wow!!!

this is really nice touch. i am glad they are trying to keep things like this more accurate. the Scifi audience as a whole is far more intelligent and social then in previous decades and keeping little things like this consistent really make us nerds smile. it also inspires a bit a of confidence that dispite the completely new direction they might just know what they are doing.

also on a small side note: discovery dropped an F-bomb in the best way possible for a scifi show. having tilly squeal "this is so F-ing cool!" and to have the others agree was probably the best and only way they could have gotten away with it. because she is right. it is F-ing cool. XD

Unfortunately, in season 2, they ruined the universal translator with the “tower of Babel” scene. Instead of voices being duplicated, everyone just starts talking in other languages. And Saru, who speaks 94 languages, is able to understand them and reply, even though his own speech should be translated randomly as well.

If Discovery was doing warp speed "accurately" wouldn't everything on the viewscreen be blue shifted right out of our visual range?

Great to hear someone who appreciates Discovery like I do.
