How did Roman legion manage their shit. I mean, literally. Imagine the smell they leave along the way. What if they have to go during a force march?

Such a caring man. He makes sure his troops are being fed and taken good care of. I hope he doesnโ€™t get stabbed to death by like 40 people or anything

Lol omfg this is the kind of thing that demonstrates how much everything has changed in 150 compared to humanities almost 8000 years of written history I legitimately thought you were going to say something unique like he actually bought it or ran a seemingly modern system where Roman citizens came and vended food but no he just did how it was done till about 1890

Actually the Romans, also during Ceasar's time, had a very sofisticated supply and bagidge train system. They had a system of sypply depos and main supply centers. These centers would be major cities or towns. If in enemy terretory they would be cities/towns that were conquered at the beginning of the campaigne as a first foothold. The supplylines and other administration would always follow the army. The roman army was highly sofisticated in many aspects, thats why it was so effective and hard to immitate. The army in the field lived primerily from the supply lines, and supprted its consumption with products baught from merchants, hunting and foraging for supplies, which included requisitioning food from local people, yes. Of curse, sometimes if the supply lines were broken foraging would become the main way of feeding the army. But the romans tended to avoid this, as it was not sustainable and would arouse the anger of the local people. Leading to further resistance and revolts and such in enemy terretory ... not a good idea. Especially when your supply lines are already in bad shape. So, I just wanted to say that the topic is much more complicated

There is the winning of hearts and minds so he also sent ox trains after them with supplies. The reason the almighty Rome finally fell was over extended supply lines. You can't indoctrinate the locals to your ways without the pleasantries enjoyed by the Romans. I also believe they sourced weapons and armor from established sources close to home.

The sales from selling tribes into slavery went to the general, Caesar, he was the Roman government in Gual. He sold whole tribes into slavery. He followed in Marcus Crassius foot steps who once said a man can not consider himself rich if he can not feed and maintain a legion of men.

When Caesar had his army hungry and without food they ate anything even creatures that despised to touch with their hands. Once he fed his army dried local roots mixed with milk.
