The Senate unintentionally made a martyr out of him and assured his legacy, the name Cesar to this day means Emperor in several languages.

Caesar: Gets assassinated.
His loyal legions: So, you have chosen death.

Considering the legend it created and the subsequent rise of the Imperium, if he could watch from the afterlife Caesar might have found his assesination very favorable *to say the least*

Caesar was the type a guy who would
- get kidnapped by cilician pirates
- demand that they ask for a higher ransom
- befriend them with his overwhelming charisma
- and crucify them with a fleet of ships once being freed

The problem was, I walked around shooting my mouth off declaring myself dictator for life. That really pissed a lot of people off and in retrospect I probably shouldn't have spouted that BS. I might have been around a bit longer.

Cesar: The hell is that supposed to mean?

In the end, let's admit that this assassination made him even more popular posthumously.
Imagine having a ruler so good that his rivals couldn't help but straight assassinate him on his workplace because he was too strong to be left alive.

Of all the depictions of Caesar's death, the best in my opinion is the one featured in the episode "Caesar", of the docudrama series "Ancient Rome: The Rise and Fall of an Empire." In this version, Caesar (brilliantly played here by Sean Pertwee) notices the Senators drawing knives as they surround him, but, instead of panicking or fighting back, he just stands still and holds out his arms, ready to become a God. The scene then fades to black and the episode ends

Julius Caesar: *Is brutally murdered*
Brutus: "NOW THAT THE TYRANT IS DEAD, THE REPUBLIC SHALL RISE FROM ITS ASHES AGA..."

Octavian: "Hey, uncle Julius! Sorry for arriving late, but I was flirting with a beautiful girl named Livia when..." *Notices Caesar's corpse and the Senators wearing bloody knives*
Senators: "..."
Octavian: "..." *Silently goes away*
Brutus: "Why do I have the feeling we just really f*cked up?"
