Hey guys, SnapJelly here to talk to you about the nasal helmet. An early medieval helmet worn by some of the earliest of knights and that was very popular for a very long time. It also ''evolved'' into the famous viking helmet that people know.

Armorer here, You didn't mention one of their chief advantages. They are the simplest type of helmet to make. The Spangen construction (4 plates riveted together) means you don't need large sheets of metal. And the composite construction lets you make them cold (rather than having to raise them). So in Sum they were Cheap and Effective which in military terms is the golden standard.

I feared for the hair until you turned to the side. Please don't give me a heart attack like that

Actually that helmet IS your size. With the padding and mail it definitely would fit well enough. The padding is surprisingly thick in those kinds of helmet. Lindy did a video on that once and his padding was super thick and it still didn't seem like enough and the mail would be over that still.

you make really good videos, and the "lindybeige no script" style really suits you. I hope your channel continues to grow.

the nose guard will not stop a direct hit like you described. its more to stop random indirect blows common on battlefield melees. that type of helm was so popular becouse, it offered a lot of protection will not inhibiting speak or eyesight.

You should wear that helmet for all of your videos.

There is also the padding worn under the helmet on occasion, which may be why that one doesn't "fit" you.

Would be interesting to see this helmet tested with horizontal strikes level with the nose guard.

Hey snapjelly, I recently stumbled onto your channel. Do you think you would make a video talking about how realistic the swords from attack on titan are? Like in terms of realism with the swords and how it would work with the whole grappling hook setup. Hope your channel continues to grow.

believe me you don't want to have a broken nose, it really freaking hurt

I don't think the regular man of arms in the MiddleAges would care if he had a broken nose or not. Heck, it could have been the mark of a man if he had a broken nose! "Hey junior, now that you've joined our hardy band of mercenaries, first you have to be initiated." -"Ok... [SOCK] You broke my f***ing nose!!!" "That's it folks, let's hear it for junior!" -"Bastards..!" But apart from that the nose guard prevents greater damage being done to the rest of the head. I mean, I was also shocked when I learned how 'integraal helmen' (motor cyclists' helmets) work. Even with the impressive chinprotection, it does not prevent your jaw from being broken. However, when the chinprotection hits anything, it crumples up, absorbing most of the energy but you still get a broken jaw. On the other hand, if one is not wearing an 'integraal helm' but the old 'jet helmet' then he wouldn't have to worry about any broken jaw. Because he wouldn't have a jaw anymore.

What medieval helmet would offer a decent protection, while giving you still great field of sight? It seems that as far as medieval helmets went, you either had a good protection for your head at the cost of visibility, or the other way around.

Hey, so I know you've done reviews about different armor types from TV shows before, and I was wondering if it would be possible if you could do a review about the efficiency of the different types of armor from The elder scrolls 5: Skyrim, the same game you reviewed the daggers, swords and greatswords from.

Especially the dwarven armor set, I would love to hear your thoughts on them.
