Welcome to Discrete Math. This is the start of a playlist which covers a typical one semester class on discrete math. I chat a little about why I love discrete math, what you should expect, and how an online discrete math course is structured.

We are going to see:
Sets, Functions and Relations
Logical Statements
Truth Tables
Universal Quantifiers
Proving claims directly, with contradiction and with contrapositive
Induction Proofs and Sequences
Probability, Conditional Probability and Bayes' Theorem
Graph Theory

Welcome to Discrete Math! Answers to some questions:
1) This playlist corresponds to a typical one semester course normally called discrete math or finite math. It is often taken in 1st year university, or sometimes last year of highschool.
Good luck!

I'm here almost 4 years later, and based on this video alone, I am happy (and a bit sad) that your videos will help me so much more than my professor has this semester. Nothing against them, but they are very hands-off in providing any feedback or answering questions, which I need personally to grow (which is made hard by distance learning, I'm sure it'd be different in person). Thank you for making this series, you will be a lifesaver!

I swear if I found you somewhere in my life, I am gonna hug you so hard for two reasons.
1. For being so good at maths
2. For being so at teaching.

So much respect from core of my heart!

Lot of appreciation if you are a self-taught developer and still getting into that much of details

I'm glad I found these videos! Thanks so much for posting them! I immediately thought to myself, "This is great! Now I can learn Discrete Math even faster." I definitely prefer online videos over being in class. I feel like learning in class is kind of slow sometimes and I can spend more time learning instead of travelling to class.

I am watching you're videos to prepare me for my next semester, I am terrible at math, but am dedicated to learning how to code, myself as well as all of you, we can do this!

Commenting on all your videos because you carried me through Calculus I, II and now Discrete Math. You may have well taught me my first two years of university math altogether! Cheers from Alberta.

I'm here 6 years later, and this man has single handedly helped me on both multivar calc and discrete math. (Even though I still failed my last multivar finalbecause i procrastinated too hard)

For me, the most important aspect of discrete math was its applicability. After solving MANY circuit equations (3 x 3 systems) by hand, I was SO glad when we were finally given a program that could do it numerically. (This was before schools were supplied MATLAB or similar packages.) So, having a program or piece of software that could solve a linear equation of N Equations in N Unknowns was very important to me. This became probably the most important tool in my toolbox. After that, the second most popular piece of software was a program that could numerically compute roots of equations. Several other discrete programs were also useful, such as solving eigenproblems, but they were a distant third at best. And throughout the discussion of how to numerically solve all these types of problems, always remembering to account for computer round-off error, how to quantify it, and how to minimize it, was never forgotten.

I've only been watching your videos for a short time but I want you to know that the information you have relayed to me has already been far greater than any of the professors I've had at my University. I hope I can continue to learn from you as it seems to be my only chance of understanding any Math. Thank you so much!

I am not a computer science major and I just got accepted into the CS master's program. So this is going to get me to the level I need. Thank you!

I taught this for a year as a TA in college. I kept a chapter ahead of the class, had not taken the course actually. But they gave me decent evaluations for the most part. It has been 20 years, so I think I will watch these as a fun refresher, thanks for putting this on.

I am really hoping this is going to help me, I am reading a discrete math book since two months (together with other math books), and this one is particulary hard for me. So I had to make the hard decision of saying to myself "stop, I have to recognize I am not smart enough to learn this by myself without a teacher", so I am really looking forward to this course.

(Btw, you saved my life before with strong induction!)
